The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) has vowed it will not hesitate to advise congregations on how to cast their votes on December 7 polls if President Nana Akufo-Addo fails to assent the anti-LGBTQI+ bill into law.

Speaking on Adom FM Burning Issues, the General Secretary, Reverend Immanuel Tettey stated the bill will help to uphold the values that are important to the people of Ghana.

He, therefore, noted none of the religions and Ghanaians at large will sit aloof and accept anything that frowns on morals and values.

Reverend Tettey made these comments in reaction to the Finance Ministry’s caution for the President not to sign the bill which was passed on Wednesday February 28, 2024.

Even though Akufo-Addo has said he is yet to receive the controversial bill, the Ministry on March 4 said it could lead to severe repercussions on the country’s financial support from international organisations like the Bretton Woods Institutions.

But Reverend Tettey has emphasised the importance of upholding Ghana’s unique cultural, and family values and has urged the President to serve the interest of Ghanaians by assenting to the bill.

“The 275 MPs in parliament did not get there by themselves; they are representatives of the people and we are all saying we don’t like LGBTQI+ activities.

“But if they decide not to listen to us, we will advice ourselves in the upcoming election. We will ask our people to reject anyone who wants to ignore our moral, values and impose what we don’t like on us,” he cautioned.

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has unanimously endorsed the nomination of Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as Running Mate to John Dramani Mahama.

Mr Mahama, in a tweet shortly after the endorsement, said, “Naana Jane is God-fearing, a distinguished scholar, a conscientious public servant and a role model.”

This is the second time the former Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast and Minister of Education will be partnering former President Mahama on the ticket of the NDC for a major election in 2024.

Before her selection, several names were floated as potential running mates which included Julius Debrah, former Chief of Staff; Dr Kwabena Duffour, former Finance Minister and Governor of Bank of Ghana; Mr Kwame Awuah Darko, former Chief Executive of Tema Oil Refinery and BOST,  Kojo Bonsu, former Mayor of Kumasi; Dr Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, the NDC Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey Constituency.

The former President submitted name of his preferred running-mate to the National Executive Committee and the Council of Elders of the party for scrutiny.

The Founder and Leader of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Christian Kwabena Andrews, has announced that he will choose his running mate from the Western Region.

The decision stemmed from the fact that, the Region in the 2020 elections, gave GUM, the highest votes, indicating the desire of ‘Westerners’ to see most of the projects and programmes by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah revived.

Mr Andrews, popularly known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom declared at the weekend during a meet the press and stakeholders’ engagement in Takoradi in the Western Region, to talk more about the party’s principles and philosophies aimed at lessening the economic burden of the Ghanaians.

He said, “I have asked the people to engage with the chiefs and religious leaders and whoever they select from the Region becomes my running mate in the 2024 presidential elections”.

The GUM flagbearer said the party was an epitome of hope, restoration, and revival of the Ghanaian economy and social life and prayed that Ghanaians supported it to achieve its vision for the country, adding, “GUM is not a small party, therefore let’s continue to support the party to the high office of the land.”

The GUM party, Mr Andrews said, intended to run an all-inclusive government to “save” the country from “demons and witches” destroying the fortunes: oil, gold and other natural resources meant for the holistic development of the Nation.

He urged Ghanaians to be alert to the happenings in the country, reason through it very critically and make the best of decisions come 2024.

He added that it was time Ghanaians used their brains very actively to avoid being used.

Mr Andrews said, “We have no monies to spend, but I entreat you to be very circumspect, digest the policies presented to you, as against taking tokens and peanuts to sell the very foundation and future of the country into the hands of some selfish individuals who avoid the collective good for individualism.”

The GUM party, born out of the ideologies of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah first appeared on the ballot paper in 2020, as a first timer, during which Mr. Andrews secured 105,548 of the valid presidential votes cast, representing 0.08 percent, and thus placing third to the NPP and the NDC.

The party’s core principle was that every Ghanaian must arise to contribute impactfully to the development of the country to turn around the country’s economic, political, and social structure.

Mr Andrews believed that there should be a new Ghana with unity and peace, industrialization, free ports, employment for all, strict monitoring, and punishment for corrupt practices.

The US Supreme Court has struck down efforts by individual states to disqualify Donald Trump from running for president using an anti-insurrection constitutional clause.

The unanimous ruling is specific to Colorado, but it also overrides challenges brought in other states.

Colorado had barred Mr Trump from its Republican primary, arguing he incited the 2021 Capitol riot.

The court ruled that only Congress, rather than the states, has that power.

The top court’s decision clears the way for Mr Trump to compete in the Colorado primary scheduled for Tuesday.

Mr Trump is the front-runner for the Republican nomination and looks likely to face a rematch with Democratic President Joe Biden in November’s general election.

On Monday, the ex-president immediately claimed victory following the ruling, taking to his Truth Social media platform to claim a “big win for America”. The message was followed by a fundraising email sent to supporters of his campaign.

Speaking from his estate in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, soon afterwards, he said that the decision was “very well crafted” and will “go a long way towards bringing our country together, which it needs”.

“You can’t take someone out of a race because an opponent would like it that way,” Mr Trump added.

Colorado’s Secretary of State, Jena Griswold, said that she was disappointed by the ruling and that “Colorado should be able to bar oath-breaking insurrections from our ballot”.

Additionally, the watchdog group that brought the case in Colorado, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (Crew), said in a statement that while the court “failed to meet the moment”, it is “still a win for democracy: Trump will go down in history as an insurrectionist”.

Maine and Illinois had followed Colorado in kicking Mr Trump off the ballot on similar grounds.

The efforts in both those states were put on hold while his challenge to the Colorado ruling was escalated to the Supreme Court.

“We conclude that states may disqualify persons holding or attempting to hold state office,” the court’s opinion says. “But states have no power under the Constitution to enforce Sections 3 with respect to federal offices, especially the presidency.”

The nine justices ruled that only Congress can enforce the 14th Amendment’s provisions against federal officials and candidates.

Part of the Civil War-era amendment – Section 3 – bars federal, state and military officials who have “engaged in insurrection or rebellion” against the US from holding office again.

Groups including Free Speech For People had argued that the attempt to delay the peaceful transfer of power on 6 January 2021 matched the definition of insurrection outlined in the amendment.

One of the court’s justices, Amy Coney Barrett, wrote separately that the fact that all nine justices agreed on the outcome of the case is “the message that Americans should take home”.

“The court has settled a politically charged issue in the volatile season of a presidential election,” Justice Barrett wrote. “Particularly in this circumstance, writings on the court should turn the national temperature down, not up.”

But the court’s three liberal justices argued that the ruling seeks to “decide novel constitutional questions to insulate this Court and [Trump] from future controversy” by announcing “that a disqualification for insurrection can occur only when Congress enacts a particular kind of legislation”.

“In doing so, the majority shuts the door on other potential means of enforcement,” they added.

Atiba Ellis, a law professor at Case Western Reserve University in Ohio, told the BBC that while the court’s concerns about Mr Trump’s exclusion from the ballot are “fair”, the ruling “may have far-reaching consequences”.

“It opens the door to constitutional interpretation matters that weren’t at issue in the case. The decision throws the problem to Congress at a time when partisan deadlock will guarantee inaction on this matter,” Mr Ellis added. “The decision effectively ensures that the question of the former president’s constitutional eligibility under Section 3 will not be resolved prior to the 2024 election.”

Another legal scholar, Albany Law School’s Ray Brescia, said the court’s decision prevents a situation in which there is a “patchwork of states with different processes”.

“If the court was to allow Colorado to proceed in this way, what’s to stop some rogue prosecutor in another state from saying that a candidate from a different party is not a viable candidate because they engaged in insurrection?” he said.

Republican voters in Colorado and 14 other states will vote on Tuesday in a marathon contest dubbed Super Tuesday.

The former president is widely expected to sweep the board and defeat his sole remaining opponent, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, in every battleground.

The Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Nuru Sharubutu has led the National Muslim Conference of Ghana, to present a manifesto proposal to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama.

The 14-point ‘Muslim Manifesto’ is important in ensuring that political actors do not neglect the Muslim community.

The presentation was made last Thursday at a meeting attended by Mr Mahama, NDC executives, and some members of parliament.

The proposals included the construction of STEM and TVET schools in all Zongo communities across the nation’s sixteen administrative regions, an amendment to the interstate succession bill to allow Muslims to inherit according to Islamic ordinances, and the establishment of modern abattoirs adhering to World Health Organization standards in all regions of Ghana.

Also, the conference proposed the formation of a permanent pilgrimage board to facilitate the annual Mecca trips.

Mr Mahama upon receipt of the proposal assured the National Chief Imam and the Muslim community that he will take a keen interest in their requests and work to ensure that they benefit from what is due to them.

“Thank you for your proactive approach, and rest assured that your voice will be heard in our 2024 manifesto.

“Together, we will work to build a more inclusive and equitable Ghana that we all want.

In response, Mahama acknowledged that many of the points in the Muslim Manifesto are already included in the NDC’s 2020 People’s Manifesto,” he lauded.

Meanwhile, the conference within last week submitted a similar proposal to Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

The flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has maintained Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as his running mate for the 2024 presidential election.

According to JoyNews sources, the names that have come up as possible running mates include the former Chief of Staff – Julius Debrah, former Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu, the NDC Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey constituency – Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings and Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.

John Mahama has submitted names to the National Executive Committee and the Council of Elders of the party for scrutiny.

The NEC and the Council of Elders of the party are preparing to deliberate on Mr Mahama’s choice for running mate but a highly placed source has confirmed to JoyNews that the former president will nominate Prof Opoku-Agyemang to partner with him for the 2024 general elections.

Speaking to JoyNews‘ Parliamentary correspondent, some MPs expressed their support for Prof Opoku-Agyemang’s nomination to partner with Mr Mahama in the December general elections.

The NDC MP for Tamale Central, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed said; “I think all the names you have mentioned are capable than Dr Bawumia but I really don’t think it will make any sense changing the running mate we used in the 2020 elections.

He said it was very clear that there were some impacts being made by the running mateship of Prof Naana Jane and it wouldn’t make no political sense to replace her.

“I really don’t think there will be any changes. I will be shocked if there are any changes and the only way there could be a change is if Prof Naana says she is no longer willing to contest,” he told Kwaku Asante.

On her side, the Deputy Minority Whip, Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe-Ghansah also backed the running mate position of Prof Opoku-Agyemang.

She remarked, “Why should it be another name? …. She was supporting way back before she came to the limelight. People were supporting behind and she was part of those people.”

Mrs Cudjoe-Ghansah stated that it is time for women to lead, emphasising that it starts from the vice president position.

“I believe the choice of a female running mate shows a commitment to gender equality and participation in leadership. John Mahama has made it and he’s going to do it again.

“We couldn’t get the general elections because of one or two reasons and this time, he’s going to name her again and have the first female vice president for Ghana,” she said.

The NDC MP for Kintampo North constituency, Joseph Kwame Kumah also backed the call to retain Prof Opoku-Agyemang as the running mate.

“I’m a gender activist, and I’m very sensitive when it comes to gender. For me, our mother Naana Jane did marvelously well.”

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has paved the way for a potential presidential running mate for its flagbearer, John Mahama.

Speaking to JoyNews, the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Mustapha Gbande stated that the party is ready to listen to those endorsed for the job.

He explained that voting at meetings to arrive at a decision has consistently been part of the NDC custom, emphasising that if it becomes necessary at any level, it will be proposed by the General Secretary and the National Chairman.

“That doesn’t just put so much pressure on the flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, knowing very well that with this announcement out, those who are very interested in partnering with him will scale up their lobbying skills,” he said.

This comes after the former president presented names for consideration to the NEC and Council of Elders.

The decision of the two bodies will bring finality to the choice of the running mate at a meeting scheduled for March 7, 2024.

However, persons interested in the job are at liberty to lobby.

“If you aspire to be a flagbearer, you go around and campaign; the same principle applies to the running mate.

“So a lot of people are interested; this is our season to be consulted, they have to call us and speak to us so that we arrive at the best choice. So the choice would be in the interest of the party,” he explained.

He dismissed the claims that allowing people to lobby the NEC for the running mate position would encourage monetisation of the electoral process.

“Who told you that when lobbying somebody, you carry money around and lobby the people? No, in NDC you lobby, you speak to individuals, you sell your visions, you have to carry your CV on your back,” the NDC Deputy General Secretary said.

The authorities in Chad have said the country’s delayed presidential elections will take place in May.

The vote is supposed to mark the end of a political transition that began in 2021, when former President Idriss Déby died after three decades in power.

In defiance of the constitution, his son Gen Mahamat Déby was named his successor and promised to return the country to civilian rule.

The transition was delayed and Mr Déby is expected to stand as a candidate.

Analysts say the electoral commission is far from neutral and the opposition fears an extension of the Déby dynasty in Chad.

Who is Mahamat Déby, the new leader of Chad?

Born in 1983, General Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno is one of the sons of the late president Idriss Déby.

At the time of his father’s death, he was the head of the presidential guard and participated in numerous military operations throughout their career.

Despite his apparent lack of governmental experience, Mahamat Déby is charged with conducting a military transition which will last 18 months, until elections are due to take place.

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Kobina Tahir Hammond, has declared that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will remain in opposition indefinitely.

Speaking to Citi News after the President’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Tuesday, February 27, Hammond emphasized that despite the economic challenges, the country is on the path to recovery.

He asserted that the NDC habitually rejects proposals from the NPP out of jealousy and ignorance, urging Ghanaians not to be swayed by NDC propaganda.

KT Hammond expressed confidence that per the president’s speech, the country will rebound to its normal state under the leadership of the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

While questioning the attendance of the NDC’s flagbearer at the 2024 State of the Nation Address, Hammond suggested that Ghanaians should support the NPP to keep the NDC in opposition.

“Considering the crisis we have all spoken about and considering all that we’ve come to know, the NPP government has done pretty well and from what the government is saying, I think the country will massively back Vice-President Alhaji Bawumia.

“Don’t fall for the propaganda of those guys in the NDC, don’t fall for their propaganda at all. Why did they start shouting and why did former President John Mahama decide to attend for the first time State of the Nation’s Address.”

“Mind you, I’m not sure if he’s ever attended in the eight years of President Akufo-Addo’s government. Former President John Mahama decided never to attend. Today, he came in there, I’m not sure what is it that he was signalling, but I tell you the good people of Ghana are going to make sure that the NDC sits in opposition till thy kingdom come.”

The Okada Riders Association of Ghana has threatened to boycott the 2024 elections if their operations are not legalised.

Their demand according to them is borne out of the fact that the business has become a source of income for many Ghanaian youth.

The General Secretary, Abdul Razak, has said they can therefore no longer withstand frequent harassments from law enforcement officers.

“We call on the government to legalize our operations. In the last two weeks or so our vice president went to speak about the vision he has for the country and we did not hear any information about us. That is the reason why we are also calling on the government to legalize our operations.

“When you look at the country right now, the way this job has created jobs for the youth, it is really helping the youth with their daily bread. So that is the reason why we say that if the government legalises this operation and we put law into order it will help the youth to put something on the table,” he said in an interview with Accra-based Citi News.

Meanwhile, the Association has said they will rescind their decision if any political party promises to legalize their operations when voted into power.

President of the Africa Armwrestling Federation, Charles Osei Asibey, has declined an invitation to serve on New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s Manifesto Committee.

Mr Asibey was named to serve on the Youth and Sports sub-committee together with ex=footballer, Asamoah Gyan, among others in the build-up to the December 7 election.

However, Mr Asibey says his decision is to continue being neutral on political grounds and not be affiliated with any party.

He communicated his refusal in a statement released on Sunday, February 25, 2024.

Former President John Dramani Mahama, has accused Vice President Bawumia of plagiarising his sincere promises despite being complicit in poor governance currently experienced by Ghanaians.

In his remarks on Friday, 23rd February 2024 while addressing participants at the NDC LAB Policy Dialogue held at the Peduase Valley Resort in Aburi, Mahama expressed delight at the conclusion of the policy dialogue, emphasising the significance of the NDC’s preparedness in presenting policy proposals well ahead of the upcoming elections.

He commended the NDC LAB for its critical thinking and ideation around policy options aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of the Ghanaian people, and highlighted the urgent need for rebuilding the nation amidst socio-economic challenges, including high unemployment rates and worsening living conditions.

He descended on the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration for mismanagement, corruption, and a lack of accountability, leading to a catastrophic economic meltdown.

Referring to his long-standing policy proposals, Mahama noted that Vice President Bawumia’s recent promises to reduce the size of government, abolish certain taxes, and carry out constitutional reforms, and accused him of borrowing these ideas despite being instrumental in the poor governance under the current administration.

“The widespread acceptance of the 24-hour policy appears to have sent the NPP campaign into a tailspin, leading to a frantic effort to attack it through calumny and disinformation in the last few days. We are fortified in the knowledge that the days when the NPP assumed that they could use falsehood to hoodwink Ghanaians for electoral advantage are over, mainly because of their horrific performance in the last seven years after they were entrusted with the administration of our dear nation, Ghana.

“There is no room in leadership for excuse-making and flight from responsibility. You cannot make grandiose promises about the economy in 2016 only to be put in charge, run it down, push all of us into suffering and hardships and turn around to say you were only the mate of a reckless driver and, therefore, you should be excused from blame. Not only do I have a much better and measurable performance record in both my role as Vice President and Head of the Economic Management Team, and later as President, than my leading contender in this year’s elections, I also have a record of taking responsibility.

“The same cannot be said of my opponent. I note that my long-espoused pledges to substantially reduce the size of government by having much fewer Ministries, Ministers and appointees, abolish the payment of ex-gratia, scrap taxes like the e-levy and carry out far-reaching constitutional and governance reforms, have compelled my opponent to promise the same despite being front of centre of the poor governance under which all these ills have taken place,” he said.

Mahama reiterated his commitment to implementing his promises, including the establishment of a resilient governance structure and initiatives to create jobs and support indigenous businesses in the digital economy. He assured Ghanaians of protecting their votes and ensuring a fair electoral outcome.

“Since 2021, I have outlined over sixty (60) different policy proposals, carefully curated to restore our economy and national life into a much better state.

“In particular, the 24-hour economy policy has found resonance with most Ghanaians, especially the youth, as confirmed by both data-based and anecdotal evidence.

“This policy has offered hope to our increasingly restless and despondent population that the half measures and mismanagement they see under the Akufo-Addo/ Bawumia government, which has plunged us into suffering, will soon give way to more prudent and forward-looking programmes.

“The 24-hour economy remains the surest way to achieve significant economic expansion, boost productivity, meet demand, curb unbridled imports and their attendant adverse effects on our economy, currency, and, above all, generate well-paying jobs for the millions of people without employment,” he said.

Founder and Leader of the Movements for Change, Alan Kyerematen has begun a tour of some of the major markets in the Greater Accra Region.

The tour, which started at the Makola market, is the former Trade Minister’s way of introducing himself to voters in the various markets.

Mr Kyerematen was met with a lot of excitement at the various markets including the Kaneshie market.

Speaking to JoyNews, some traders expressed optimism in Mr Kyerematen’s ability to transform the country into a prosperous nation.

A trader said judging from the crowds polled, it would be a huge contest in the 2024 elections, while another said the former Minister was a great leader and encouraged Ghanaians to offer their utmost support to him.

Mr Kyerematen, who could not hide his excitement, told the media that his reception was evident; the people wanted a change in leadership and, consequently, a change in their economic standing.

“When you are connected spiritually to the ordinary people, you don’t need to mobilise them. You can see that the impact has been spontaneous and I am indeed humbled. You can also get a sense from the remark that they are making the change they want to see in Ghana.

“Yes we have had our two dominant parties for the last 32 years and it is almost unanimous in terms of what you are hearing from them that it is time for a change and I happen to be the right man at the right time. They are expressing their confidence in me to be able to lead this transformation process. So I am pleased about what is going on so far.

“The people are deciding, they have already made it clear that they want to see Alan Kyerematen as the next President,” he added.

Former President John Dramani Mahama on Friday reiterated his vision for a brighter future for Ghana.

In a keynote address he delivered at the NDC LAB Policy Dialogue held at the Peduase Valley Resort in Aburi, Eastern region, Mr. Mahama underscored the National Democratic Congress (NDC’s) commitment to implementing bold policies aimed at addressing the country’s socio-economic challenges and fostering inclusive growth.

Mr. Mahama highlighted the urgency of the current economic crisis facing Ghana, citing alarming statistics on unemployment and worsening living conditions.

He criticised the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration for its mismanagement and ineptitude, which he argued had exacerbated the country’s economic woes.

“The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) reported on Wednesday this week that unemployment keeps rising and currently stands at a staggering 14.7%, as nearly 1.4 million young people aged 15 to 35 were unemployed in the first three quarters of 2023 alone. This is, by every account, a very harrowing situation.

“Worsening living conditions, unbearable hardships, a spiralling cost of living, high inflation, rising inequality, a widening gap between the haves and the have-nots, a steep erosion of the purchasing power of Ghanaians, an unsustainable public debt, massive debt defaults, a failing currency, and astronomic budget deficits tell the tale of a catastrophic economic meltdown, which is the result of shocking mismanagement and ineptitude by the Akufo-Addo/ Bawumia administration.

“Compounding our miserable circumstances as Ghanaians are astonishing levels of governmental corruption and plain thievery of our resources, severely weakened and heavily politicised governance institutions serving the NPP rather than the national interest, and, more importantly, the insufferable arrogance of power.

“This is not the Ghana we subscribed to. Without a doubt, this current iteration of our country requires urgent rebuilding anchored on our collective aspirations with workable, progressive, and sustainable policies,” he said.

In response to these challenges, Mahama outlined what he called a comprehensive strategy for economic recovery and governance reform, emphasising the importance of a resilient governance structure anchored on ICT uptake and innovation, which would drive job creation and economic growth.

He unveiled several key initiatives, including a “Digital Jobs Initiative” aimed at creating 300,000 skilled employment opportunities for young people.

Mahama also announced plans to establish a FinTech Growth Fund to support indigenous companies in the digital economy and launch a “Coding for Employment Programme” to train one million coders.

Mahama’s address also highlighted the NDC’s commitment to addressing infrastructure deficits through the completion of abandoned and uncompleted government projects.

He emphasised the party’s readiness to govern, citing ongoing efforts to collect data on infrastructure projects and develop implementation frameworks for policy proposals.

Mahama concluded his address by reiterating the NDC’s pledge to build a Ghana that reflects the aspirations of its citizens, and expressed confidence in the party’s ability to deliver on its promises and protect the integrity of the electoral process in the upcoming elections.

In a series of unsuccessful attempts, the North Tongu Assembly members have yet again failed to elect a presiding member after a fourth attempt.

The persistent deadlock has sparked concerns about the potential negative impact on the activities and progress of the assembly, leaving the District Chief Executive (DCE) Osborn Divine Fenu disappointed and worried.

The latest election, which took place on Thursday afternoon at the assembly hall, saw tensions rise as members once again failed to reach a consensus.

The position of presiding member, crucial for the smooth functioning of the assembly, remains vacant, much to the dismay of both officials and constituents alike.

Expressing his disappointment, the DCE emphasized the urgency of filling this pivotal role.

“It is disheartening that we have not been able to elect a presiding member after four attempts. This is a critical position that is integral to the effective operation of the assembly and the delivery of services to our people.”

The failure to elect a presiding member raises concerns about the assembly’s ability to conduct its business and casts a shadow of uncertainty over upcoming projects and initiatives.

The absence of a presiding member could potentially stall decision-making processes, hinder the implementation of development plans, and create administrative bottlenecks.

Members of the assembly have been urged to prioritize the district’s interests and set aside personal differences to break the deadlock.

The DCE, alongside other officials, has called for a renewed spirit of cooperation and collaboration among assembly members to ensure the efficient functioning of the local government.

North Tongu DCE, Osborn Divine Fenu.

Residents have also voiced their concerns about the situation and its impact on developmental projects and essential services. Many are calling for swift action to resolve the impasse and move the district forward.

The North Tongu Assembly is expected to reconvene for another attempt to elect a presiding member in the coming days.

As the community eagerly awaits a resolution, all eyes are on the assembly members to set aside their differences and fulfil their mandate of serving the people of North Tongu District.

Assembly Members for the Awutu Senya West District have rejected the President’s nominee, Moses Arhinful Acquah, as the District Chief Executive (DCE).

Out of the 35 total votes cast, he secured 19 yes votes, 15 no votes with one spoilt ballot.

Per the local governance act, the nominee was expected to secure 24 votes representing two- thirds of the total votes cast and that a re-election had been scheduled to take place in 10 days.

Central Regional Minister, Mrs Justina Marigold Assan, speaking after the exercise said the ultimate responsibility of the Assembly was to ensure the district developed and that required that committees and sub-committees were formed to commence the developmental agenda of the communities.

She therefore urged the members to bury their differences and consider the development of the Assembly, paramount.

In an interview with Mr Richard Ghartey, Presiding Member of the District Assembly, he expressed disappointment in the results of the elections and reiterated calls to make the progress of the area top on the agenda.

Mr Arhinful was a parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2004.

He was also said to have crossed carpet to Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) and was even the parliamentary candidate in the 2012 general elections.

His appointment therefore sparked tension in Awutu Senya West as some New Patriotic Party (NPP) members have questioned his loyalty as someone with an unstable political allegiance.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has assured the public and all stakeholders that it will unveil its electoral calendar for 2024 before the end of February 2024.

It also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the original December 7 date for the general elections despite earlier discussions for a change.

Already, controversy has arisen over the potential alteration of the 2024 election date, sparked by concerns from the Seventh Day Adventist Church regarding the election day coinciding with a Sabbath.

In response, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticized the EC for not prioritizing the release of the electoral calendar and instead focusing on what they deem as “unproductive endeavors.”

However, during an appearance before the Public Accounts Committee on Wednesday, February 21, Deputy Chair of the Commission, Dr. Bossman Asare, assured that the EC will soon announce the electoral calendar for 2024.

“We will certainly disclose it [the calendar] before the end of February. It should be out by the end of this month [February],” Dr. Asare promised.

Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Prof Ransford Gyampo has urged flagbearers of the various political parties to be measured in the campaign messages for the 2024 election.

Speaking on Adom FM Burning Issues, Prof Gyampo acknowledged it is good for politicians to work with campaign messages because they promote issue-based politics.

However, he noted in the upcoming election, flowery promises will not influence the choice of voters.

“Research I have done with some colleagues at Gyampo Consult shows that promises in campaign will not influence electoral fortunes.

“It will be influenced by track record, integrity, and achievements due to the numerous unfulfilled promises we have had over the years,” he said.

He has therefore appealed to the parties not to make too many promises as the time and resources to deliver are limited.

“It is not going to be about the usual sweet messages and rich promises but for instance someone who can prioritise and improve healthcare, tackle electricity crisis, durable roads, ensure every house gets water and other lasting projects that will stand the test of time.

“They shouldn’t promise heaven on earth,” he admonished.

South Africa’s finance minister has boosted welfare payments to more than 18 million people in his last budget ahead of May’s general election.

The governing African National Congress (ANC) is facing a tough political challenge as it battles to maintain its outright majority in the 29 May poll.

Left-wing rival the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has already pledged to double payments to the less well off.

But harsh economic conditions leave the government little room for manoeuvre.

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana was under pressure to curtail the government’s growing budget deficit while also maintaining spending, and keeping taxes low, in order to not put voters off.

The ANC won the 2019 election with 57% of the national vote. Opinion polls suggest that for the first time since it took power at the end of apartheid in 1994, the party’s share of the vote could fall below 50% in the upcoming election.

To cheers from ANC MPs, Mr Godongwana said monthly payments to the elderly, war veterans and those with disabilities, among others, would go up by 100 rand ($5.32; £4.22) a month – an increase in line with inflation of nearly 5%.

The minister also announced a rise in grants to others, including those with children.

There had been speculation, in line with what President Cyril Ramaphosa had said earlier this month, that the government would increase monthly payments to low earners and those most in need.

This Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD grant) of 350 rand is currently paid to nine million people.

Among the key beneficiaries are those without jobs, in a country where just under a third of the potential workforce is unable to find work and joblessness among the youth stands at 4.7 million.

Mr Godongwana said efforts were under way to “improve” their SRD grant. He failed to disclose by how much, saying more revenue first needed to be found.

The EFF, which is eating into the ANC’s support, has promised in its election manifesto to double all permanent social grants.

It has also promised a brand-new payment to all unemployed high school and university graduates.

One of the EFF’s MPs, popular musician Ringo Madlingozi, suggested that the minister was avoiding responsibility with his speech and urged the party’s supporters to vote the ANC out.

Meanwhile, the main opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) has said it would boost payments, particularly for those with children.

It also wants to convert the SRD grant into a job seekers’ payment. It has criticised the budget for doing nothing for vulnerable South Africans.

While Mr Godongwana is looking to boost government revenue, he did not raise income tax levels, though more people will be paying tax as their wages go up.

Neither did he increase the general fuel levy for car drivers but a rise in the carbon tax will boost petrol prices.

The finance minister also increased taxes on cigarettes, e-cigarettes, cigars and alcohol.

Overall, South Africa is faced with a slow-growing economy. Mr Godongwana admitted that the “size of the pie is not growing fast enough to meet our developmental needs”.

It is not producing enough jobs for the 7.9 million unemployed. People are also faced with an increase in the cost of living and constant power cuts, affecting homes and businesses.

The ANC will now have to convince enough voters that it can still be relied on to manage the economy to the benefit of South Africans.

While opposition parties labelled the budget an election campaign speech for the ANC, Mr Godongwana denied this.

He told local TV station eNCA that his budget was about addressing the country’s balance sheet, and would have no bearing on the elections.

The former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has said he is not worried about his exclusion from Dr Mahamudu Bawumia‘s campaign team.

The private legal practitioner endorsed Dr Bawumia’s candidature and started campaigning for him long before his election on November 4, 2023, as NPP flagbearer.

It was therefore the expectation of many that he would at least be made a spokesperson on the campaign team for the 2024 election.

However, hopes were dashed when Obiri Boahen did not make the list submitted to the National Executive Council (NEC) on February 19.

Reacting to the development on Adom FM Burning Issues, Obiri Boahen disclosed his appointment would have been a disservice and cost the party in the upcoming election.

“I started my campaign in 2021 and I wasn’t expecting anything because even if I was made a spokesperson, it would worry me, Bawumia and the NPP.

“I have had my grievances on certain national issues, particularly the cathedral and have declared I don’t see it as a priority so people could have used that against us,” he said.

Obiri Boahen emphasised he has principled positions on national issues, adding “I prefer to be a free man who will embark on his own campaign.”

The event is been organised in collaboration with the NDC Social Democracy LAB.

These groups encompass areas such as Human Development, Finance and Economy, and Governance.

Central to the discussions will be the concept of a 24-hour economy, with a focus on policy proposals aimed at transforming and rebuilding Ghana.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Ketu North, Edem Agabana has expressed confidence in securing a significant lead in the polls in this year’s parliamentary elections.

According to him, he will not only win due to his personal attributes but largely due to the strong support of the party in his constituency.

In an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem Wednesday, Edem Agbana noted that he wouldn’t have the same level of confidence if he were to contest in another constituency.

“I am confident that on December 7, I will win the elections in Ketu North with a wide margin not necessarily because of what I bring to the table but because of the goodwill of the party. If I contest in another constituency, I wouldn’t have this kind of confidence. The dynamics are different and those constituencies don’t have the goodwill of the people,” he said.

Deputy co-manager of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) campaign team, Nana Akomea is optimistic Ghana’s economy will soon witness a recovery.

With barely 10 months to the December 7 polls, Nana Akomea, who doubles as Managing Director of the State Transport Company (STC) has assured Ghanaians should expect this turnaround within six months.

“We know that in a couple of months, maybe 6, 7 months, the economy will lift, and the economy will be on an even cure. The signs have already started showing. But they just started showing, the Cedi has been relatively stable compared to the last 2, or 3 years.

“Interest rates are still high because the government is borrowing heavily from the Treasury Bill, and external credit is closed. Interest rates are quite high, we agree, inflation is still high, but it’s coming down. The reserves are picking up,” he said in an interview on Accra-based Citi TV.

Nana Akomea noted there are already signs of economic recovery despite the high inflation and interest rates, citing the stability of the local currency.

He further experienced confidence Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s victory in the upcoming election will make things better.

“The bigger problem we face is that I believe, we have the most vibrant candidate in Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. But as a government, we are in economic difficulty today. Nobody has hidden it, and we all know the major things that have brought us into this situation.

“But once you are a government, you will suffer for it. If people don’t have money in their pockets, there could be many external factors. But you are the one sitting in front of them, and they will blame you. We are suffering for it, that is one of our biggest difficulties,” he added.

The inclusion of President Akufo-Addo and former president John Kufuor on the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) campaign team is a sign of unity among the rank and file of the party.

According to Professor Kobby Mensah, a Political Analyst, their omission from the team would have conveyed the wrong message to the NPP’s followers and opponents, particularly the National Democratic Congress (NDC), about the Party’s current disarray.

Speaking in a radio interview monitored by the Ghana News Agency, the Political Analyst claimed that the Campaign Team would use the experiences of the two Statesmen to propel them to victory in the elections.

“Of the old and the new, and you see that they have positions for former President Kufuor and other Statesmen in the campaign hierarchy and superstructure.

“That is demonstrating a certain united front. Not mentioning the names of other people could send a signal of disunity, so they had to mention them as campaign advisors to serve as the superstructure. For me,” he said.

Prof Mensah said the campaign would “draw on the party’s strength and the strength of the proposed policies much more than the personality of the candidate,” he said.

The NPP, Monday, February 19, announced a 30-member campaign team for the upcoming December elections.

The Team comprised prominent figures within the party including former President John Agyekum Kufuor and current President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former National Chairman, Freddie Blay, and former Campaign Manager, Peter Mac Manu.

The Team aims to mobilise support across the country and strategise effectively towards winning the 2024 Election, credible sources told the media after a crunch meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Party in Accra, on Monday.

The members of the Party’s Council of Elders, including Elizabeth Ohene, Rev. Joyce Aryee, and Akosua Frema Osei Opare, the Chief of Staff are also members of the Campaign Team.

The chairman of the campaign team is Dan Botwe, the Member of Parliament for Okere and former Local Government and Rural Development Minister, supported by deputies; Fred Oware and Nana Akomea.

The list included the flagbearer of the Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who will serve as the chairperson of the campaign committee.

The Team also included former top officials of the party, such as the current President, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo; former President John Agyekum Kufuor; former campaign manager for Peter Mac Manu; and former General Secretary and Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr. Dan Botwe who will act as advisors.

Prof Mensah acknowledged the depth of the Campaign Team but explained that it would not cause any upset to the opposition NDC.

“… I am not sure it will send them (NDC) shivers, but of course, this is a very powerful team. If you look at Dan Botwe for example, he had been part and parcel of Kufuor’s successes in the 2000 and 2004 elections. If you look at Mac Manu, a consummate expert in the field of campaign and election matters,” he said.

Founder of the All People’s Congress (APC), Hassan Ayariga says the Electoral Commission(EC) does not need to change the December 7 election date.

According to him, the electoral body must push for an amendment of the portions of the 1992 Constitution which mandate a runoff if no candidate secures 50 plus one vote.

Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse, he said,“I don’t think we need that [change in election date]. What we need is a different constitutional amendment to cancel the second round. Because their purpose of asking for the elections to be shifted to 7th November was not because of anything, but to give them time in case there is a runoff. For me, I think we should go a different step ahead and look at the issue of not necessarily having a runoff in our elections.

“But finding a way where we go for the first round, two parties emerge with the highest votes. They now find a way of having an inclusive government and taking from the other political parties who do not have 50 plus one to join and form a government.”

He suggested that the winner-takes-all system practiced in Ghana must be replaced with a coalition government.

Mr Ayariga added that parties that attain the highest percentage of votes should choose members of the government from various political parties.

With this, he believes issues of corruption and monopoly in the Ghanaian political system would become a thing of the past.

On January 16, the Seventh-day Adventist Church made a strong case for an amendment to the December 7 election date.

The church, in separate petitions first to the Electoral Commission, said national elections would have to be moved from the conventional December 7 because the date falls on a Saturday, which will conflict with the Sabbath, a holy day dedicated to the worship of God.

This was however opposed by the National Democratic Congress and other political parties during the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC).

On February 19, EC stated that its proposal to move the date for general elections from December 7 to November will not take effect this year.

According to the Deputy EC Chairman in charge of Corporate Services, Eric Asare Bossman, the legislation required for this change to be implemented for subsequent elections will be put before Parliament soon.

“So within the last few months, this is something the Commission is going to trigger,” Dr Bossman said on JoyNews.

The SDA Church has since welcomed the EC’s decision.

The Minority in Parliament is unhappy about the intended action by the Ghana Police Service against the Director of Research and Planning, DCOP Prince Gabriel Waabu.

They maintained that, the senior officer did not err in his comment about military involvement in election security.

DCOP Waabu told JoyNews during the launch of Election Headquarters that the Military will not be involved in the management of this year’s election security.

But the Police Service in a statement described the comment as unfortunate and has initiated internal disciplinary measures against him.

Reacting to this, the Ranking Member on Defence and Interior, and MP for Builsa North Agalga said there was nothing wrong with the comments by DCOP Waabu to warrant the response of the Police Service.

He maintained that, the military must not be involved in election security.

“We expect the police to discharge their mandate very effectively and efficiently to make it unnecessary for the military to come in because the military as you and I know are not trained primarily to maintain internal law and order so when you bring them in, normally you are bound to have certain challenges” Mr. Agalga added.

The Director of Electoral Affairs for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team, Peter Mac Manu says that it is time to dispel the perception of the Electoral Commission (EC) favouring parties in power.

According to him, the EC is a neutral body with the mandate of organising and overseeing elections in the country.

Speaking on JoyNews’ the Pulse on February 20, he noted that over the years, political parties have been accusing the EC of supporting one party or the other because certain actions and decisions of the body appear to benefit that party.

Mac Manu therefore believes there is a lot of work needed to break that perception. “I think that it is about time that we broke the suspicion that lingers either in opposition or in government about the activities of the Electoral Commission.”

He was responding to the age-old problem where both the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party, each take turns accusing the EC of being biased depending on which party is in opposition.

Mr Mac Manu advised the electoral body to dispel this perception by being transparent about electoral processes.

“For me, how we do it is for the EC to be as transparent and open as possible and to listen to stakeholders as they have done recently in respect of the date and the ink,” he said, referencing the EC’s U-turn to now accept that indelible ink would be used to mark voters once they go through the process, as against its initial insistence on eliminating the ink, as well as agreeing to implement the date-change for voting from the 2028 elections, instead of this year, as canvassed by the NDC.

When asked why after 30 years of democracy, the EC still had not been able to convince people of its neutrality, Mr Manu said three decades are not enough and that it takes much longer to build such a reputation.

“So 30 years is long for you eh? Some people have practised democracy for over 200 years and they still continue to make changes and amend because we don’t live in a static society. So every now and then the dynamics of society makes it imperative that there are bound to be changes as we move on. But 30 years is not enough,” he said.

He argued that democracy is a journey, “So 30 years  of that journey is nothing.”

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Ghana says it has accepted the decision by the Electoral Commission (EC) to consider changing the national election date from December 7 to a working day in November starting from 2028.

The Church in January petitioned the Electoral Commission for an amendment to the December 7 elections.

However, after broader consultations, the EC stated that its proposal to move the date for general elections from December 7 to November will not take effect this year.

Communication Spokesperson for the church, Dr. Solace Yawa Asafo in a statement on February 20 thanked EC for the willingness to accommodate this significant adjustment in the future.

“This development is a testament to the spirit of dialogue and mutual respect that characterizes Ghana’s democratic landscape,” the statement read.

The Seventh-day Adventist Church reaffirmed its dedication to productive discussions with all parties involved to foster a democratic environment that respects the varied religious landscape of Ghana.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticised the Electoral Commission (EC) for what it describes as disregard for public concerns by initially suggesting the elimination of indelible ink in the 2024 Election.

This criticism follows the EC’s decision to reverse its stance in the upcoming general election.

Speaking during the launch of The Multimedia Group’s 2024 Election Coverage, the Deputy Electoral Commissioner in charge of Corporate Services, Dr Eric Asare Bossman said the decision was necessary in building trust and consensus ahead of the December polls.

“After listening to the discussions, we have heard the concerns of the general public, we have heard the parliamentarians, we have heard the concerns of the NPP and the NDC and civil society members so we have concluded that if by using the ink people will have more trust in the process, why not?” he quizzed on Monday.

But Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Mustapha Gbande believes that the Commission should not have ignored the concerns of Ghanaians when it first hinted at the move to remove that layer of security in elections.

National Coordinator for Coalition of Domestic Election Observers Albert Kofi Arhim welcomes the decision to maintain the use of the indelible ink.

He, however, believes it will be in the right direction for the General Elections should be held in November.

The Ghana Police Service has distanced itself from comments made by a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Gabriel Prince Waabu on election security.

Speaking on Joy News, DCOP Waabu indicated that the service treats every constituency as a hotspot.

DCOP Waabu also emphasised that the police have implemented various structures and strategies to guarantee the safety and security of citizens during the electoral process.

He also expressed confidence that the levels of professionalism exhibited in internal party elections would be maintained during this year’s poll.

However, the service in a statement has said it deem the comment unfounded and does not represent its position.

The statement explained that under the National Elections Security Taskforce Architecture, it work with all other security services including the Ghana Armed Forces to ensure peace, security, law and order, before, during and after elections.

The statement added the conduct of the officer is being subjected to internal disciplinary processes.

A Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has addressed concerns about the role of the National Chairman, Stephen Ntim, within the campaign structure ahead of the 2024 election.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Monday, February 11, Mr Mohammed clarified that Mr Ntim has not been sidelined but rather has a significant role to play.

On Monday, the NPP unveiled the campaign team that would help the party ‘Break the Eight’, however, the 40 names listed did not include that of the party’s national chairman which generated conversations about whether he was being sidelined.

But addressing this concern, Mr Mohammed highlighted that Stephen Ntim is an integral part of the campaign coordinating committee, which is chaired the 2024 presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

He noted that the committee also includes key figures such as the General Secretary and all 16 regional chairpersons.

According to Mr Mohammed, the national chairman’s role within this committee is substantial, emphasising the importance of his contributions to the overall campaign effort.

“The National Chairman’s work is very huge and where he could be put and accorded respect is to be part of the national campaign coordinating committee.

“So, the chairman has been included in the structure of the campaign team,”he told host, Evans Mensah on Monday.

The Deputy General Secretary further referred to a statement issued by the NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, where it was explicitly stated that the national campaign coordinating committee would oversee the work of all other committees.

Mr Mohammed further emphasised that this decision was thoroughly discussed at the national executive committee and subsequently approved by the national council of the party.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has stated that its proposal to move the date for general elections from December 7 to November will not take effect this year.

In January, the Commission proposed the date change, along with considerations for designating the election days as national holidays.

These proposals were presented during the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held on Monday, January 22, 2024.

Advocating for an earlier election month, the Commission emphasised that declaring election days as national holidays could increase civic engagement and contribute to the cultivation of a more robust democratic culture.

However, a section of Ghanaians, including the National Democratic Congress (NDC), opposed this idea.

They explained that it does not align with the consensus reached that any major electoral reforms should take effect from November 2028.

Deputy EC Chairman, Dr Asare Bossman, while clarifying the matter on JoyNews stated that the move is not expected to be implemented during this year’s polls.

“That was agreed with the political parties that in the event we cannot marshal the forces of IPAC to have it in November in 2020, the commission should take steps to ensure that in 2028, we are going to have it in November,” he said at the launch of JoyNews’ 2024 Election coverage.

The Deputy EC Chairman further explained that the new date will be a selected day in November, and not November 7 as widely speculated.

“This must be clear, we were not talking about November 7. At the IPAC meeting, the decision was a day in November. So it can be the first Monday, a second Monday, a third Monday or Tuesday or Friday or Thursday.

The Electoral Commission (EC) says it has abandoned its decision to eliminate the use of indelible ink in this year’s elections.

This follows numerous objections to the proposal by Ghanaians and the various political parties.

Speaking during the launch of the Multimedia Group’s 2024 Election Coverage, the Deputy Electoral Commissioner in charge of Corporate Services, Dr Eric Asare Bossman said the decision was necessary in building trust and consensus ahead of the December polls.

“After listening to the discussions, we have heard the concerns of the general public, we have heard the parliamentarians, we have heard the concerns of the NPP and the NDC and civil society members so we have concluded that if by using the ink people will have more trust in the process, why not…” he said.

Earlier, the Minority caucus in Parliament had accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of breaching the constitution by abandoning the use of indelible ink in the upcoming elections.

Speaking on the floor of parliament, the First Deputy Minority Whip, Ahmed Ibrahim and Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor said the action by the EC contravenes the regulation passed by Parliament for the effective performance of its functions.

“The issue of the non-use of the indelible ink breaches the law…Mr Speaker, you cannot come to Parliament with an instrument where protocols have been outlined and you as an administrative fiat decide that you won’t go according to the protocol.

“The use of indelible ink is part of the regulations that we put in the instrument for the effective performance of the Electoral Commissioner so, you cannot decide that you would not apply it. She must do things that will help her perform effectively,” the two NDC MPs had argued.

But EC chair, Jean Mensa, had insisted that prudent measures have been put in place by the Commission to improve the electoral process and ensure a robust identification system.

Madam Mensa explained that the adoption of biometric technology has made it challenging for individuals to vote more than once.

According to her, once a voter has been verified and cast their vote, the system registers the information, preventing any attempts at double voting.

This explanation was however rejected by the opposition NDC with some calling on the EC to reconsider the proposal.

But backing the stance by EC Chair, Dr Eric Asare Bossman said the EC was aiming to avoid double verification in the general elections.

“Last year we noted that we thought when you look at the procedures in our elections the idea of using the indelible ink is like you are using two layers for verification.

“So the Commission said if Mr. Evans Mensah is coming to vote, then Mr Evans Mensah will be verified electronically for us to know that indeed Mr Mensah has been verified so when you want to go ahead to use the indelible ink then clearly you don’t have confidence in your biometric register so as a result of that we suggested that it will be better if we do away with the ink,” he explained.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has stated that its proposal to move the date for general elections from December 7 to November may not take effect this year.

According to the Deputy EC Chairman in charge of Corporate Services, Eric Asare Bossman, the legislation required for this change to be implemented will be put before Parliament soon.

“So within the last few months, this is something the commission is going to trigger,” Dr Bossman said on JoyNews.

As the nation gears up for a crucial general election, some Ghanaians are already fed up with the two major political parties, the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In the bustling streets of Accra, amidst the hustle and bustle, Ghanaians expressed their discontent and frustrations.

The Multimedia Group Limited’s grand launch of its election coverage initiative, christened the Election Headquarters for the English-speaking populace and ‘Kokromoti’ Power for the Akan speakers, serves as a rallying point for these voices.

From the corridors of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly to the vibrant hub of Kwame Nkrumah Circle, our team navigates the urban landscape, capturing the minds of the people.

Some Ghanaians have chosen not to vote as a silent protest against NDC and NPP.

This, they explained, is because both political parties have been given the opportunity but has moved Ghana’s socio-economic development from bad to worse.

“Both NDC and NPP are cut from the same cloth. They don’t bring anything on board. We voted for them and here we are, disappointments everywhere,” some traders said.

Amidst their opinions, one prevailing sentiment stands out: dissatisfaction with the political establishment.

“We don’t expect much,” a trader lamented, echoing the disappointment of many.

Yet, amidst the doubt, there is a glimmer of hope — a determination to vote based on substantive issues rather than succumb to gestures from politicians come election time.

“The youth are being neglected. Basic needs are overlooked, opportunities are scarce. For me, this election holds greater significance. It must be inclusive,” a concerned youth said, revealing the urgent need for responsive governance.

As Ghana stands at the crossroads of its democratic journey, the voices of the disenfranchised echo through the corridors of power, demanding to be heard.
