In a shocking turn of events, a senior magistrate, Terence Mashaire, has found himself in legal turmoil as he is accused of accepting a bribe to manipulate a trial verdict.

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe shared on their X account how the accused and the bribery planned to turn a verdict into a innocent one beyond the court.

Details of the Alleged Bribery

According to the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC), Mashaire allegedly received groceries, stationery, and a Defy Microwave from the defendant, Allen Bhaswi, in September 2023.

The gifts were purportedly given as a token of appreciation for the favourable ruling in Bhaswi’s case.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) revealed that the accused and Bhaswi went beyond a professional relationship, engaging in communication before and after court sessions.

The case, which concluded in December 2023, resulted in a ruling in favour of Allen Bhaswi.

It is alleged that Mashaire accepted a Solo Defy Microwave, groceries, and stationery as gifts from Bhaswi. Law enforcement officers later discovered the stove at Mashaire’s residence, providing further evidence of the alleged bribery.

Even after the conclusion of the case, Mashaire’s involvement did not cease. The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) appealed the judgment in the Allen Bhaswi case.

Mashaire reportedly continued to advise Bhaswi on the legal proceedings at the High Court. An additional allegation states that Mashaire received USD450 through Ecocash from Bhaswi.

Terence Mashaire has been remanded in custody and is set to appear in court on 4 March 2024 for a bail ruling.

The scandal has raised concerns about the integrity of the judiciary. The potential influence of external factors on legal decisions is being questioned.

A 19-year-old foreman, Matinu Alhassan, appeared before an Adentan Circuit Court on September 3, 2023, for allegedly stealing GH¢57,000 from a hardware shop.

The accused person who was before the court presided over by Angela Attachie pleaded not guilty to charges of breaking into the shop, destroying a padlock and stealing.

Following his not guilty plea, the judge granted him bail in the sum of GH¢57,000, with two sureties who must prove ownership of a landed property. The case was adjourned to October 2, 2023, for further court proceedings.

Details

The prosecutor, Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo who presented the case before the court said the complainant, Emmanuel Twumasi, was a businessman.

He said Twumasi, the accused, Alhassan and his suspected accomplice, Malik Adam (currently on the run), all reside at Oyibi, Appolonia, a suburb of Accra.

He added that Twumasi, who deals in hardware equipment, owned several shops within Accra, one of which was located at Appolonia and managed by one Mohammed.

Mohammed, the suspect Adam and other employees who frequently slept in the shop.

The prosecutor said on the evening of August 8, 2023, after the shop had closed for the day, Twumasi was unable to collect the proceeds, thus entrusted the shop manager, Mohammed, to secure the money.

According to Chief Inspector Lanyo, the accused, Alhassan, learned about the existence of the money through his friend and suspected accomplice, Adam.

Therefore, around 11 p.m. the same day, Alhassan paid an unannounced visit to the shop while Adam and shop manager Mohammed were asleep.

Alhassan then proceeded to break the padlock where the money was kept and stole GH¢57,000.

While attempting to escape with the money, Alhassan was spotted and questioned by Adam.

Alhassan promised to share the money with Adam if he allowed him to escape, to which Adam agreed.

“The next day, when the shopkeeper discovered the break-in and theft, he reported it to the complainant, leading to a report being lodged at the Oyibi Police Station.

Investigations subsequently led to the arrest of the accused, who initially admitted to the offence in his caution statement.

However, he later claimed to know nothing about the missing money,” he said.

The prosecutor said efforts were underway to apprehend the suspected accomplice, Adam.

Stakeholders in the Yendi Municipality are asking government to model the Northern College of Science and Technology’s School Farming System to ensure students have a steady supply of nutritious meals when school is in session.

The Northern College of Science and Technology has over the past six years grown its own food to feed students.

The school farming system is a concept where schools use the school backyard as a classroom, where practical agriculture lessons are taught.

Authorities at the school say this has also inculcated in the students a spirit of self help and independence, virtues needed to survive in the world.

Though this concept has been widely accepted as one way to develop the interest of Ghanaians in agriculture, the concept was scrapped out of the school curriculum.

Principal of the Northern College of Science and Technology, Nathaniel Adams Jnr highlighted the nutritional benefits of the initiative.

“Since we started the farming, we’ve produced cereals, rice, maize, and more. Everything we feed on is from our farm.” The school also raises poultry, including chickens for eggs, contributing to the students’ daily nutrition.

“The school has been practicing the farm system for the past six years and that has reduced the cost of feeding the children. Since we started the farming, we’ve produced cereals, rice, maize. Everything we feed on is from our farm. We also farm cat fish, guinea flows, turkey for meat. Our children eat an egg a day from the poultry we rear. So we rear these birds who lay eggs and the eggs are given to the children “.

Students are made to work on the farm in batches, to ensure they take responsibility of the produce and what they eat.

One of the team leads, Baku Mushina said “we are here to water the plants and to feed the animals. We always divide ourselves into groups so that some can feed the fishes, some can water the plants and the other ground feed the animals.

She added, “we learn new things and we learn hard so that wherever we find ourselves after here we can use the knowledge”.

Yendi Municipal Director of Agriculture, Alhaji Abubakari Mohamed said the school was adjudged the best in Agriculture education.
He commends Authorities for this move.

“I don’t know what informed the decision to remove the concept from the basic level. In the past when you follow your father to the farm during weekend, you tell him this is what our Agric Master taught us and they will implement it and it worked. I am sure if we had continued, our level won’t be where we are now’

The Kuga Naa who gave the school acres of land wants other Chiefs to emulate this and release lands for such projects.

“We started with two acres but today they have 36 acres of land the school is using. I want to encourage chiefs who have land to allocate to schools to develop their agriculture component”.

The Kuga Naa emphasised “agriculture is the backbone of the country and when much effort is put in place it will ensure food security “.

A last video taken of Mr Ibu shortly before his death has popped up on social media fueling anguish among his fans.

Known privately as Charles Okafor, the actor spent his last days in a hospital bed, struggling with blood clot in his amputated leg.

As though he was ready to accept his fate, Mr Ibu shared profound message on life’s journey and the inevitability of death.

“I don’t know where to start, but everything happens exactly in God’s own time. When the time comes, it has come,” Mr. Ibu told musician Rudeboy of PSquare fame.

Rudeboy, a fellow entertainer and close friend of Mr Ibu, had been a constant source of support during his hospitalization.

While Mr. Ibu’s family was grappling with financial struggles and embezzlement, Rudeboy quietly took care of all medical bills without seeking recognition on social media.

In view of this, Mr. Ibu’s final words were messages of blessings and good wishes to Rudeboy, acknowledging his selflessness and kindness.

“If you don’t go to Heaven, call me Nama. You will go to Heaven and we will sit down in the presence of the angels and we will eat together. Your life will never change,” he prayed.

Even in the face of death, Mr. Ibu’s spirit remained undaunted as he managed to crack a joke.

In the vibrant city of Durban, South Africa, the music world was shaken to its core when the beloved rapper Kiernan Jarred Forbes, known to his fans as AKA, was brutally gunned down in February last year. The tragedy unfolded outside the WISH Restaurant on Florida Road, where AKA and his friend Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane met their untimely deaths.

The tragic incident not only left fans mourning but also set off a complex investigation that eventually led to the arrest of the alleged killers as well as their co-conspirators. Here’s a look at the crucial mistakes that AKA’s killers made that ultimately led to their capture and eventual arrest.

Using Banks For Illicit Financial Transactions:

A significant blunder made by the suspects and their co-conspirators was using the banking system for the transfer of R800,000, allegedly paid for the murder, as well as paying the alleged killers using the banks.

Large financial transactions are often traceable, leaving a digital trail that law enforcement agencies can follow, which is why some criminals prefer to deal in cash or alternative means of payment such as cryptocurrency.

In this particular case, the killers received a portion of the R800,000 that was paid for AKA’s murder. The two brothers received R133,000, which was deposited in the Standard Bank account.  Another red flag was that the said account was opened on the morning of the shooting.

The R800,000 was transferred from a First National Bank account belonging to another suspect who is also part of the conspirators.

Using Their Mobile Phones During The Commission of the Crime:

Cellphone communication between the suspects and other individuals involved in the crime provided crucial evidence.

According to an application for provisional arrest filed by Elaine Harrison, who is the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) based at the KwaZulu-Natal Division of the High Court, cellphone records established that one of the suspects (name redacted) was present in the grey BMW that had tracked Forbes and his friends from King Shaka Airport to the hotel.

Cellphone records also placed the other suspects at the scene of the murder. According to the Times, the DPP said,

“Cellular phone records were obtained for Siphamandla Ngcobo and compared with cellular phone records at the scene of the murders on the night in question. It was established that (name redacted) had communicated with (name redacted) and (name redacted). (Name redacted)’s cellular phone records were obtained and he was also placed in the vicinity of Florida Road where the murders had taken place.”

Using Identifiable Vehicles Which Could Be Tied To Them:

The use of specific vehicles, such as a grey BMW, a white Mercedes-Benz C200, and a grey Polo during the commission of the heinous crime further implicated the suspects. These vehicles were tracked and linked to key locations related to the crime.

“The Forbes entourage was followed by a grey BMW from King Shaka Airport to Hilton Hotel. While the first deceased and his entourage were at the hotel, a grey Polo with registration NUR 597728 was spotted as having passed the hotel. It was later established that this grey Polo was a ‘spotter vehicle’ used by the assailants,” submitted the DPP (Harrison).

According to South African law enforcement authorities, it was also established that one of the suspects had allegedly hired the grey Polo that was used as a ‘spotter vehicle’.

The police were thus able to trace the vehicles to one of the suspects and also further used cellphone records to connect this suspect to his co-conspirators.

The white Mercedes-Benz C200 was used by the killers as the getaway vehicle shortly after shooting AKA and Tibz.

Surveillance Footage:

The suspects were captured on surveillance cameras at multiple locations, including during the commission of the crime. This footage played a crucial role in establishing their presence and movements before and after the murder.

The DPP averred that video footage outside the WISH Restaurant revealed that the grey Polo stopped outside the restaurant while Forbes was inside the restaurant. She alleged that the clothing of the person who alighted from the vehicle and entered the restaurant was the same as seen in the video footage as being the African male who was later identified as (Name redacted). She pointed out that the tracking report on the grey Polo placed the vehicle in the vicinity of Hilton Hotel and later at the WISH Restaurant.

Attempted Evidence Destruction By AKA’s Killers:

In a failed attempt to cover their tracks, one of the suspects tried to set fire to the white Mercedes-Benz believed to be the getaway vehicle. However, they did not succeed in burning the car and valuable forensic evidence was recovered from the vehicle.

The DPP said,

“Upon investigations carried out at the scene where the Mercedes-Benz was abandoned, it was established that there had been attempts to set the vehicle on fire by one of the suspects.”

Witness Testimonies and Forensic Evidence:

The combination of witness accounts and forensic evidence, such as spent cartridges and postmortem reports, corroborated the sequence of events leading to the arrests of the suspected killers of AKA.

The meticulous investigation into the murder of AKA and Tibz unveiled a series of mistakes made by the suspected killers, ultimately leading to their arrest. From financial trails to surveillance footage and cellphone records, each piece of evidence played a pivotal role in solving the case. As the music world continues to mourn the loss of a talented artist, the pursuit of justice serves as a reminder of the consequences of crime. Will this case bring closure to the fans and family of AKA?

In a devastating incident that unfolded in Karoi, three men died when a room where they had illegally stored fuel exploded and engulfed in flames.

The incident, which occurred on the 24th of February 2024, has left the community in shock and prompted a warning from the police regarding the dangers of such practices.

Confirming the tragic event, National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi shared details of the incident in a statement.

According to the police report, the fire erupted after a room located in the Chikangwe high-density suburb, where the victims had stored fuel for illegal resale exploded. The intense flames quickly engulfed the house, leading to the tragic loss of lives.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the death of three people in a fire incident which occurred at a house in Chikangwe, Karoi on 24th February 2024 after the room in which the victims used to stock fuel for illegal resale exploded,” stated Assistant Commissioner Nyathi.

The police have since identified and revealed the names of the 3 victims who died in the fire incident.

The family of the late Herbert Wigwe, the former group chief executive officer (GCEO) of Access Holdings Plc, has announced arrangements for his burial rites.

The banking guru with his wife, Chizoba, and son died in a chopper crash in the US on February 9.

According to the funeral announcement, the Wigwes will begin with a celebration of the professional legacy of the former GCEO of Access Holdings at the Eko Hotel in Lagos on March 4, and will end with an outing service at the Redeemed Christian Church Of God (RCCG), Lion of Judah Parish, Isiokpo, Ikwerre LGA, Rivers, on March 10.

The lives of Chizi and Chizoba will be celebrated in separate ceremonies scheduled for March 5 at the Eko Hotel in Lagos, before a night of tribute a day later at the same venue.

A combined service of songs will be held on March 7 at the RCCG, Resurrection Parish, Lekki, followed by a Christian wake-keeping at Wigwe University, Isiokpo, Ikwerre LGA, Rivers.

The combined funeral and private internment service are scheduled for March 9.

The City of David parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God where the late Wigwes worshipped was conspicuously excluded from the burial programme after the senior pastor’s wife, Siju Iluyomade, held a talk of the town birthday party days after his demise.

Many Nigerians have argued that the cleric’s wife who was like a spiritual mother to the Wigwes should have postponed her birthday party due to the unfortunate incident.

Nigerian musician, Asake’s latest music video, “Only Me,” has ignited controversy among Christians, sparking accusations of disrespect and sacrilege.

The video depicts scenes that many Christians find offensive, including dramatizations of the holy Eucharist and Asake, a Muslim donning priestly regalia.

Critics argue that, these depictions are inappropriate because there is no connection to Christianity in the video.

Others are also of the view that the video perpetuates negative stereotypes about Christianity and undermines the religion’s message of peace and tolerance.

They point out the irony of Asake, a Muslim artiste, depicting scenes of violence associated with chopping off heads while simultaneously displaying Christian practices.

Nigerians in particular have called for the video to be banned.

In a significant move to protect wildlife and reserves of Gonjaland in the Savannah Region, the youth have resolved to prevent hunting activities in the area.

For years, group hunting by Dagombas has been a common practice. However, recent developments have sparked concern among Gonja residents, leading to decisive action.

The youth, representing communities across the seven districts of the Savannah Region, intercepted a cargo vehicle carrying over 50 hunters and their dogs at Buipe in the Central Gonja district.

With determination, they prevented the hunters from entering Gonja forest reserve to hunt.

Their stance is rooted in a commitment to preserve and protect the animals inhabiting the reserve areas of Gonjaland.

The youth argue that, outsiders have no right to exploit these resources for their gain, considering the environmental impact and potential depletion of wildlife.

As the debate over hunting practices continues, the action of residents in Gonja underscores the importance of community-driven conservation efforts in preserving biodiversity and ecological balance.

The case of Zelia Sulemana, sentenced to death in 2017 for killing her friend in an act of self-defense, has sparked outrage and condemnation from many including Ghanaian actress and activist Efia Odo.

Zeila’s case followed a reportage on JoyNews which uncovered her plight and her struggles in seeking retrial.

According to reports, Ms. Sulemana and her friend were involved in a heated argument when her friend attacked her with a knife.

In an attempt to defend herself, Sulemana managed to gain control of the knife and unfortunately stabbed her to death.

She was arrested, put before court and sentenced to death despite pleas for mercy.

Reacting to the ruling, a livid Efia Odo questioned the logic behind sentencing someone to death for acting in self-defense.

In her view, it is absurd to punish individuals who defend themselves against imminent threats.

Efia Odo said the law about self-defense must be re-looked to avoid such injustice.

She further advocated for a fair and just system that protects individuals’ rights to defend themselves against harm.

Ghanaian artiste, Kwaw Kese says he is the “King of Kings” in terms of music in Ghana.

Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning, he claimed that all secular musicians, including rapper Sarkodie, take inspiration from the works he has produced over the years.

“When it comes to Ghana music, I’m the King of Kings. It’s been 20 years, and my song is still number one. Which king again? We have the king of the dancehall, the king Sark, and all the other kings, but who is the king of all these people? I am the king. They all look up to me,” he boasted.

The rapper implied that whatever the current crop of artistes are doing, he has already done and experienced them.

He also spoke about how people compare him to lunatics, due to his alleged intake of cannabis. Kwaw Kese said he is “a beautiful madman” who is rich and responsible.

“I’m driving a nice car and dressing nice. I don’t eat from the gutters, my kids go to better schools, and I take care of my family.”

That notwithstanding, the rapper said he has stopped smoking due to his current age and for health purposes.

A heated exchange ensued on radio between gospel musicians Diana Asamoah and Edward Akwasi Boateng.

The veteran musician took a strong exception to Ms Asamoah’s plea for him to stop begging after he was gifted a Toyota car by Prophet Bernard El Bernard.

Following his public outcry, well-wishers have made hefty donations to Akwasi Boateng to help alleviate his financial woes, settle his debts and cater for his children’s fees.

But to Diana Asamoah, that act is tantamount to begging, as she urged her colleague to invest wisely instead.

She suggested that, he use the car for Uber to generate income.

She is of the view that a gospel minister requesting for help undermines the supremacy of God, quizzing that “is he not the same person who sang that no servant of the Lord will beg for bread?”

However, her unsolicited opinion was not appreciated by Akwasi Boateng who saw it as an insult.

He expressed disappointment in Diana Asamoah and charged her to keep her unwarranted and disrespectful divine direction to herself.

A music producer who says he worked on Sean “Diddy” Combs‘ 2023 album The Love Album: Off the Grid is accusing the hip-hop mogul of sexual assault and harassment, sex trafficking and various other forms of misconduct in a sprawling lawsuit filed Monday, February 26.

In the complaint, filed by plaintiff Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones Jr. in New York federal court, the producer accuses Combs of “groping and touching” his anus and trying to groom him into engaging in sexual acts with Combs and other individuals, including Love Album producer Steven Aaron Jordan (a.k.a. Stevie J) and a cousin of Combs’ ex-girlfriend Yung Miami (named as a Jane Doe defendant).

He also claims that Combs “forced” him to “solicit sex workers,” some of whom were underage, as well as to “perform sex acts to the pleasure of Mr. Combs.”

In one alleged incident from February 2023, Jones claims he woke up “naked, dizzy, and confused” in a “bed with two sex workers and Mr. Combs” at Combs’ home in Miami and “believes” he was drugged by Combs.

The lawsuit, filed by attorney Tyrone Blackburn, names several more defendants whom Jones claims conspired with Combs in an alleged “RICO enterprise” to enable his misconduct: Universal Music Group (UMG), its subsidiary Motown Records, Combs’ label imprint Love Records, UMG chairman/CEO Lucian Grainge, former Motown CEO/chairwoman Ethiopia Habtemariam; Combs’ chief of staff, Kristina Khorram; and Combs’ son, Justin Combs.

Federal RICO cases, which are based on the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act traditionally used to target the mafia and drug cartels, are brought to more effectively sweep up members of alleged crime rings. (Notably, the ongoing Georgia criminal case against Young Thug that alleges the rapper ran a violent Atlanta street gang is based on a Georgia statute modelled off of the federal RICO law.)

In this case, Jones claims the “RICO enterprise” in question was set up to recruit sex workers, some of them underage, and to acquire and distribute drugs and guns out of Combs’ Miami home.

He accuses the participants in the alleged enterprise of keeping him under their control by threatening him with violence, ostracism from the music industry and nonpayment for work on the album, which he says he still has not been compensated for despite having allegedly produced nine tracks.

The lawsuit also brings up an alleged September 2022 incident at Chalice Recording Studio in Hollywood, during a writing and producing camp for The Love Album, that allegedly resulted in a man being shot in the stomach following a “heated conversation” between Combs, his son Justin Combs and another unnamed man.

Following the incident, Jones claims Combs forced him to lie to police by telling them the man was injured in a drive-by shooting outside. Jones is suing Combs, UMG, Motown, Love Records and Chalice Recording Studio for providing “inadequate or negligent security” during the camp.

In a statement sent to Billboard, Combs’ attorney Shawn Holley said: “Lil Rod is nothing more than a liar who filed a $30 billion lawsuit shamelessly looking for an undeserved payday. His reckless name-dropping about events that are pure fiction and simply did not happen is nothing more than a transparent attempt to garner headlines.

We have overwhelming, indisputable proof that his claims are complete lies. Our attempts to share this proof with Mr. Jones’ attorney, Tyrone Blackburn, have been ignored, as Mr. Blackburn refuses to return our calls. We will address these outlandish allegations in court and take all appropriate action against those who make them.”

A spokesperson for Justin Combs sent the following statement: “Justin Combs categorically denies these absurd allegations. They are all lies! This is a clear example of a desperate person taking desperate measures in hopes of a pay day. There will be legal consequences for all defamatory statements made about the Combs family.”

Representatives for UMG, Motown, Love Records, Grainge and Chalice Recording Studio did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Habtemariam could not be located for comment at press time.

Jones is asking for damages for loss of past and future income as well as “mental anguish, humiliation, embarrassment, stress and anxiety, emotional pain and suffering, and emotional distress”; punitive damages; and the costs of bringing the suit.

The Love Album was originally announced in May 2022 as a release on Combs’ newly formed imprint Love Records, to be released in tandem with UMG’s Motown. However, the album — which featured a laundry list of stars including Mary J. Blige, Burna Boy, John Legend, Justin Bieber and The Weeknd — was ultimately released independently in September 2023.

Jones’ lawsuit is just the latest in a string of legal accusations to be lodged against Combs over the past several months. In November, Combs’ longtime girlfriend, R&B singer Cassie, sued him for rape and physical abuse, though the case was promptly settled.

He was subsequently sued by two more women for sexual assault and later by a Jane Doe who claimed Combs “sex trafficked” and “gang raped” her when she was 17. Combs has denied all of the allegations.

Broadcaster and manager for Shatta Wale, Sammy Flex, has said that his doors are always open to Stonebwoy if he wants to be on his media platform.

The founder of Sammy Flex TV said the last time he interviewed Stonebwoy was when he was at Zylofon FM a few years ago.

Speaking to Kwame Dadzie on Showbiz A-Z, Sammy said that he did not have any issue with the dancehall artiste at present.

“The last time I had an encounter with Stonebwoy was when I was at Zylofon FM, when I interviewed him,” he said.

Asked if Sammy Flex had tried putting Stonebwoy on his show for an interview since their time at Zylofon, he answered in the negative.

“With the top artistes in Ghana, take it or leave it, there is stiff competition among them. So now knowing my position as a manager of Shatta Wale and knowing that stiff competition between them, would he throw himself into this game? You understand?

And again now because of my position I am sure everybody will think I would have some classified information about certain people including him. So if he opens up for me for an interview I think he might not sure how it will play out but me I still have my journalism cap on, I still interview artistes. I’ve been interview artistes be it on Sammy Flex or Class TV. I’ve been interviewing artistes everyday so if he is willing, why not?,” he said.

Asked if Sammy’s new role as an artiste manager does not conflict with his journalism profession, he explained that he always knows how to strike a balance.

Samuel Flex and Stonebwoy were reported to have had a fracas when they both worked at Zylofon Music.

Sammy Flex is widely known for his exploits in entertainment media. He produced one of the biggest entertainment newspapers in Ghana, Flex, in 2007. In 2013, he took the capital by storm with a 100% entertainment morning show dubbed AM Pluzz on PLuzz FM. After having stints with TV stations like Capital TV, TV7, Atinka TV, among others, he also landed a deal with Zylofon Music as the Communications Director and host of the morning show on Zylofon FM. He later became the manager of the station.

He currently runs Sammy Flex TV, an online media platform that largely focuses on the arts and lifestyle and also hosts an entertainment show on CTV.

In the field of artiste management, he has worked for Guru’s NKZ Music, as a communications manager, served as the publicist for Nacee, highlife artiste Quarme Zaggy and Kumi Guitar before becoming Shatta Wale’s manager in September 2023..

The Abban family of Breman Eduosia is grappling with a heartbreaking ordeal, as seven siblings dropped out of school due to circumstances beyond their control.

Once a modest family with enough to sustain them, the Abbans’ fortunes took a drastic turn when both parents, Jacob Abban and Abena Atta, fell seriously ill and became bedridden.

Jacob, the family’s head and a former vibrant farmer, found himself bedridden after a mysterious illness left one of his legs almost rotten.

His wife, Abena, who had been tirelessly caring for her ailing husband and seven children was involved in an accident that further exacerbated their situation.

The family’s main source of income, their farm, has fallen into disarray as a result of their incapacitation, leaving them without means to support themselves.

With no one to tend to the farm and their parents unable to work, the Abban children have been left to fend for themselves.

Lack of resources has forced the children to abandon their education, as they struggle to afford basic necessities such as uniform, footwear and other educational materials.

Their once hopeful future has been eclipsed by the harsh reality of their parents illness and their family’s dire circumstances.

Jacob Abban shared his sad story to Adom News with hope of getting a helper.

Police are investigating after a priest almost sipped bleach instead of wine during Mass in what is the latest in a h@te campaign of intimidation against him.

Father Felice Palamara was just about to take a sip from the chalice during Holy Communion when he smelt a strong odour of cleaning product and stopped just in time.

The chaotic scene unfolded in front of dozens of worshippers at the Church of San Nicola di Pannanconi near Vibo Valentia in southern Italy.

Police were immediately called to the church, and took the chalice away for further examination. It was later confirmed that the wine contained enough bleach to cause the man’s d£ath.

The priest has a reputation for speaking out against organised crime in the area, and it is thought that it could have been a mafia hitman who filled the cup with bleach.

Speaking after the scary brush with d£ath, he told local news outlets: “Thankfully I am doing ok but I am convinced these attacks have nothing to do with the local people as I have always got on well with them ever since I arrived.”

He later told his congregation: “My vendetta is love, my shield is forgiveness and my armour pity. I’m serene, and besides offering pity and forgiveness. I hope that justice is done and there is clarity on these criminal episodes.”

A police source told the Daily Mail that the source of the bleach could have been one of many different groups – but vowed that it was “being taken very seriously”.

They said: “We aren’t sure whether it’s organised crime or someone with a grudge against the church, S@tanists or just cranks but it’s being taken very seriously. The incident with the bleach could have had serious repercussions and Father Palamara could have been left in a very bad way had he drunk it.

“The most likely theory is organised crime and the local mafia but until we know for sure nothing is being ruled out and an open mind is being kept.”

An investigation is still ongoing, with the priest given 24/7 security in the meantime.

Member of Parliament Madina, Francis-Xavier Sosu is advocating for the criminalisation of employers who terminate the jobs of women when they become pregnant.

According to him, pregnancy is a natural phenomenon that allows for the continuity of society; therefore, employers who lay individuals off after they have become pregnant must be brought to book.

Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse on February 26, he said “I think that we must rather open up that conversation, no employer has a right to terminate the appointment of another only because she is pregnant. I think that we must fish out every employer who does that.”

His comments were in response to whether his move to seek amendment of the Labour (Amendment) Bill, 2023, particularly Section 57(1) of the Labour Act to extend the period of maternity leave from 12 weeks to 16 weeks (three months to four months), will cause many women to lose their jobs.

He explained that, any employer who lays off a woman because she is pregnant abuses the rights of the woman and as such the woman should challenge that decision.

“Every lady who is sacked on account of getting married or on account of getting pregnant must have the boldness to challenge those decisions. That is why we have institutions like the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).

“Obliviously, that process of either compelling you to resign or using all kinds of ways to frustrate you so you just leave the job can amount to an inducement to quit your job and it will be an administrative injustice to those women and I think we all have our duty to protect our women in this space,” he added.

The legislator added that the question posed by programme host, Elton Brobbey has introduced a new perspective to the bill. Therefore, during the stakeholder engagement on the matter, he intends to propose that individuals who terminate pregnant women from their jobs be criminalised.

“This has given me even a new idea because then we will seek as part of the amendment when we go to the stakeholders, and that is why we will be inviting all of you as part of the amendment to even criminalise the conduct of people who would try to induce women to quit their jobs because they became pregnant.

“In the first place, who got the women pregnant and is it their fault that they are pregnant and how do we sustain our society?” he asked.

In October 2023, he initiated the Labour (Amendment) Bill, which brings to fourteen the total number of Private Member’s Bills initiated by the Madina MP.

The Bill will also provide the option of an additional two weeks in the case of caesarean, stillbirth(s) or multiple births, and provide for related matters.

The Madina legislator is also seeking an amendment to Section 20 of the Labour Act to introduce paternity leave for a minimum period of seven days and a maximum period of four weeks with an option for an additional two weeks in the case of caesarean, stillbirth(s) or multiple delivery of spouse.

Kenneth Mitchell, an actor who appeared in the series “Star Trek: Discovery” and Marvel’s “Captain Marvel,” has died, his family announced in a statement shared on his verified social media Sunday.

He was 49.

“With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Kenneth Alexander Mitchell, beloved father, husband, brother, uncle, son and dear friend,” the family’s statement read.

Mitchell was diagnosed with ALS in 2018. He and his family shared periodic updates about his health in recent years. In August, Mitchell marked the fifth anniversary of his diagnosis in a post on Instagram.

“My brother humorously mentioned that they don’t really have a happy ALS Anniversary card in the shop. However, I want to celebrate today; the gift of life. I’m so thankful to have this day in front of me. It’s been a long 5 years. So much lost, so much gained. Incredibly hard times, mixed with so many more blessings,” Mitchell wrote at the time.

“At the heart of it all are friends and family, caregivers and doctors coming to the aid of my family over and over and over again. Giving a plethora of support and love and care and encouragement. There is so much beauty in that. This disease is absolutely horrific…yet despite all the suffering, there is so much to be grateful for.”

From 2017 – 2021, Mitchell played the Klingons Kol, Kol-Sha, and Tenavik, as well as Aurellio, in “Star Trek: Discovery.”

“Whether someone is good or bad is all about perspective, and it’s about understanding that culture,” he told StarTrek.com in 2017. “You’ll get to know the Klingons on our show, and then people can decide if we really are the villains.”

Beyond his acting roles, Mitchell was remembered by those close to him as a “hope seeker, daydreamer, dream believer.” In his family’s statement, they expressed their admiration for the strength Mitchell showed as he lived with illness.

“Regardless of his later disabilities, Ken discovered a higher calling to be more fully himself for his kids,” they wrote. “For five and a half years Ken faced a series of awful challenges from ALS. And in truest Ken fashion, he managed to rise above each one with grace and commitment to living a full and joyous life in each moment.

Mitchell is survived by his wife, Susan, and their two young children.

In the wake of the controversial incident involving Nigerian singer Omah Lay and a female fan during his concert, netizens have turned their guns on Ghanaian songstress, Sister Derby for her spirited defense of the girl involved.

The saga began when a young lady named Jess joined Omah Lay on stage for an erotic dance performance, sparking outrage among some attendees and social media users.

Despite Jess’ subsequent apology to her boyfriend, Omah Lay, and concertgoers, Sister Derby took to social media to express her disagreement with the apology.

In a tweet, Sister Derby said Jess did not wrong, arguing that her actions were simply a form of entertainment.

She compared the situation to cultural practices in Jamaica and the Caribbean, where similar dance performances are celebrated rather than condemned.

Sister Derby’s tweet ignited a firestorm of debate on social media, with many users condemning her stance and accusing her of setting a poor example for young people.

Some argued that Jess’ behavior was inappropriate and warranted an apology, while others defended her right to express herself freely.

Meanwhile, Jess’ lover has publicly reacted to what he termed as the disrespect, revealing that he has ended their relationship.

The Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, says Ghana’s fuel specifications, which are set at Sulphur content of 50 parts per million (ppm) in fuel is the cleanest in the West African sub-region.

Dr. Abdul-Hamid was speaking as a panelist on “Downstream Decarbonisation and Circularity – Going Full Circle” at the Egypt Energy Show in Cairo, Egypt.

He said that calls on government by civil society organizations and the public to adhere to the decarbonisation objectives and the protection of the environment caused the policy change in Ghana to reduce the Sulphur content in fuel to 50 ppm.

The NPA Chief Executive, who is also the President of the African Refiners and Distributors Association (ARDA), said Ghana is changing the LPG distribution model to improve clean cooking across the country. He said series of accidents at LPG refilling stations in the past, the need to improve upon the environment, prevent deforestation and improve upon the lives of rural women especially have made the new LPG distribution model called the Cylinder Recirculation Model (CRM) more imperative.

He emphasized that the CRM will enhance access to LPG, as exchange points are being constructed across the country.

He added that government’s LPG for Development Programme aims at achieving a 50 percent penetration of LPG in households across the country by 2030. Dr. Abdul-Hamid disclosed that government provides free LPG cylinders to poor households in rural areas under the programme.

He said people could not afford cylinders and Cookstoves in the first place, and that informed their reliance on wood fuels.

Besides, the NPA Boss said the government has ordered 100 electric-powered buses for the Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMT) as a way of showing an example in the energy transition agenda.

Dr. Abdul-Hamid also highlighted government’s policy for state institutions to be powered by solar. He indicated that an incentive has been given to private individuals who want to power their institutions and houses on solar.

Dr. Abdul-Hamid lauded the freedom of speech in Ghana which encourages civil society organizations and the general public to the agenda towards cleaner energy in the country.
