Veteran actress and award-winning radio and TV personality, Edinam Atatsi, has revealed that she was a virgin throughout her early days in the movie industry.

In a conversation with Joy Prime’s Roselyn Felli on the Prime Morning show, the actress mentioned that no key industry player expressed interest in her sexually because of her appearance.

According to her, everybody considered her a small and naive girl due to her stature.

“I have always been a virgin. It’s only in recent times that some of the old ones said they didn’t know that I was this mature, and they thought I was just a small up-and-coming girl. So, they didn’t touch me,” she said.

This was in response to the question about whether people’s perception of their outlook and appearance on screen endeared them to men.

Edinam broke into the movie scene in the early 90s and serenaded Ghanaians with her unwavering acting prowess throughout the early 2000s. She was featured in movies including The Storm, Heartbeat, Her Feet Go Down to Death, Aloevera, and A Stab in the Dark.

Unlike Edinam, actress Akofa Edjeani who also spoke on the show expressed how she dealt with directors who tried to harass her sexually several times, eventually making her quit a movie role during one of his productions.

“It was a Nigerian director because I don’t think any Ghanaian director will dare look in my face and ask me that kind of stuff. It is what most of them do, so he thought he could try that on me, but I sized him up and put him in his proper place. For that one, I had to stay because we were in the middle of the production. There was another one that I had to leave the set because we hadn’t started at all, and it was that same director,” the actress narrated.

Akofa Edjeani – Pan-Africanist, Actor and Producer

Due to her roles in some movies, Akofa was perceived to be a bad girl. As a result, some directors wanted to take advantage of her, but she never gave them a chance.

Actor and former Artistic Director at the National Theatre, Mawuli Semevo was also on the show to share his opinion on the art of film-making in the 90s to begin the Ghana month on Prime Morning.

Ghanaian media personality Kobby Kyei has delved into the profound capabilities of the human mind.

Kobby Kyei’s insights shed light on a fascinating aspect of the human psychology, particularly concerning the influence of belief and suggestion on our wellbeing.

In a recent episode of the Mastering Your Mindset series on Konnected Minds podcast, Kobby told the host Derrick Abaitey about how powerful the mind is in overcoming fear and getting healed from sicknesses.

“Have you noticed that if there food, let’s say iced kenkey in a fridge, you take it and drink, you are all over the place, hosting your podcast and all. And then later they tell you the iced kenkey you drunk is spoilt, why did you take it? You begin to fall sick. You begin to have some funny feeling in your body,” he said.

During the discussion, Kobby Kyei highlighted a common relatable phenomenon observed within the religious contexts, where some pastors employ what he referred to as a “trick” to facilitate healings.

He illustrated this point by referencing instances where congregants are given prophecies to drink water during healing services, accompanied by a directive to “add faith” for the promised healing to manifest.

According to Kobby Kyei, by instilling a sense of faith and belief in the congregants, pastors effectively harness the mind’s potential to catalyze healing processes within their body.

“I say to the glory of God, I hardly go to the hospital. Because I have been able to practice and use my mind. So anytime I am sick, like small headache, I shake it off. I will be fine.

That is the reason some pastors use that as our weakness to the vulnerable. Because the pastor will tell you that if you don’t have faith, what he is telling you will not go. Why don’t you have faith yourself that that sickness will go? They will tell you ‘take the water, it will go. I pray onto the water’, and they will take the water and it will go,” he said.

The Konnected Minds podcast is known for its commitment to providing valuable and insightful content to its audience.

The show continues to foster deep and meaningful conversations around topics such as mental health, entertainment, counseling etc.

Through platforms like Konnected Minds, people are afforded the opportunity to explore diverse perspectives and gain a much deeper understanding of the human experience.

Social media sensation Afua Asantewaa says that despite the outcome of her sing-a-thon, she is thankful her attempt to break the world record for the longest singing marathon made a huge impact economically and socially.

In a press release to officially respond to the results, Afua Asantewaa acknowledged the support she received from the general populace and stakeholders to make the event possible.

“I am also deeply satisfied with the opportunities it created for people to get together and enjoy their favourite Ghanaian songs. The singing marathon created an avenue for families, friends, and loved ones to step out and enjoy the Christmas festivities in an open house party style,” parts of the statement read.

“The economic value it created for vendors and other commercial entities who mounted their wares/ products and services at the venue is also another positive outcome,” Afua Asantewaa added.

The social media sensation noted that she is grateful to have inspired many young people to dream big through this challenge.

“I am looking forward to the showcasing of more talents through the GWR and other similar ventures that will help project the rich talents and resources Ghana is endowed with. I take this opportunity to wish my other Ghanaian compatriots who have been inspired by my initiative to set their own records in the GWR, well.”

“The outcome of the attempt following the announcement by GWR is not what I expected, nonetheless, I have accepted it and have requested GWR to provide more details to enable me to pick up learnings for the future,” she added.

This comes after the GWR, last week, announced the results of Afua Asantewaa’s longest singing marathon by an individual fell through.

The GWR said this in a statement on X (formerly Twitter) adding that despite the setback they hope she makes another attempt.

They later told Joy FM via mail that Afua could not make the mark because she did not adhere to some of their rules.

“Afua Asantewaa’s singathon attempt was not successful due to guidelines around rest break timings not being met. These rules are standard across all of our ‘longest marathon’ records,” PR Executive for the Guinness World Records, Alina Polianskaya replied to a mail by Joy FM entertainment journalist Kwame Dadzie.

Afua Asantewaa later revealed that the Guinness World Records (GWR) breached their contract when it announced the result of her singing marathon before she could.

She explained that as of Friday, February 23, when GWR replied to a tweet, she did not know the results of the record attempt because she was unable to access the GWR email sent.

Afua Asantewaa noted that when she was sent the email on February 12, she alerted the GWR about her inability to access it.

Despite the outcome, Afua Asantewaa said she appreciates the commendations, feedback, and criticisms from people disappointed with the results.

“There have also been some misrepresentations in the media that are regrettable but nonetheless I take them in my stride. This will serve as a learning curve for my personal development. I wish to assure my fans and the public that I remain focused and determined.”

“I will announce my next projects in due course. I also wish to announce that after such an arduous undertaking, I have decided to take a short break for quality family time.”

“Sad day for Actors Guild of Nigeria. Kate Henshaw lost her mother earlier today and Mr Ibu suffered cardiac arrest according to his manager of 24 years, Mr Don Single Nwuzor. I announce with a deep sense of grief that Mr Ibu didn’t make it. May his soul rest in peace,” Mr Rollas’ post read.

In October 2023, family of the actor revealed that he had been battling some health issues and had undergone multiple surgeries.

He had earlier made a passionate appeal and announced a fundraiser to offset his medical bills at a Lagos hospital.

Mr Ibu had said he had been hospitalised for two weeks because of a “strange and dangerous illness”.

The actor later celebrated his birthday, hopeful of a speedy recovery.

However, on 6 November 2023, Mr Ibu’s leg was amputated, barely a month after he solicited prayers and financial assistance from his fans.

Announcing the leg amputation on the actor’s Instagram page, his family said the amputation was to increase his chances of recovery.

They said the development was complex but necessary.

On 17 December 2023, the family of the 62-year-old actor further revealed the reason behind his inability to be flown abroad for additional treatment.

The family explained in a statement that doctors deemed him ‘Not Fit To Fly,’ rendering it challenging to arrange his departure for advanced medical treatment due to the airlines’ refusal to transport him.

According to the family, the cause of the illness was not diabetes but a persistent clotting of blood in Mr Ibu’s leg, stemming from diseased blood vessels, along with other health challenges that posed a significant risk to his life.

Mr Ibu was discharged in January and was seen with Nollywood actor, Ken Erics who visited him.

The Enugu-born actor, prior to his death, featured in more than 200 Nollywood movies.

They include Mr Ibu (2004), Mr Ibu and His Son, Coffin Producers, Husband Suppliers, International Players, Mr Ibu in London (2004), Police Recruit (2003), 9 Wives (2005), Ibu in Prison (2006) and Keziah (2007).

Guinness World Record (GWR) attemptee Afua Asantewaa O Aduonum and her team have expressed gross appreciation to all for their unflinching support before, during and after the revird breaking attempt.

In a release from her PR department, it stated “I wish to express my profound gratitude to the people of Ghana and various stakeholders for your immense support throughout my Singathon journey.

“I am eternally grateful to all persons, who supported my mission to promote Ghanaian music through my attempt to break and set a new world record for the longest singing marathon in the Guinness World Records (GWR).”

The release added “Even though the final outcome of the attempt did not meet my expectations, I am content with the massive impact I made during the period of the Sing-a-thon and beyond. The interest and support I received have been overwhelming and I am deeply grateful.

“I am also deeply satisfied with the opportunities it created for people to get together and enjoy their favorite Ghanaian songs. The singing marathon created an avenue for families, friends, and loved ones to step out and enjoy the Christmas festivities in an open house party style. The economic value it created for vendors and other commercial entities who

mounted their wares/ products and services at the venue is also another positive outcome.”

It stated “I would like to appreciate my family especially my husband, my parents and the entire family, my friends, the media including bloggers,  corporate organizations, artistes, the clergy, social and political leaders, as well as music and entertainment industry experts for the immense acceptance and support of my record attempt.

“Again, I am also grateful to the medical team, the technical team, and every single volunteer, who came to the venue or invested in staying online to monitor and to support my mission. Your support, words of encouragement are well appreciated, and I am excited to have

inspired a lot of young people to step out of their comfort zones to dream big. I am looking forward to the showcasing of more talents through the GWR and other similar ventures that will help project the rich talents and resources Ghana is endowed with. I take this opportunity to wish my other Ghanaian compatriots who have been inspired by my initiative to set their own records in the GWR, well.

“The outcome of the attempt following the announcement by GWR is not what I expected, nonetheless, I have accepted it and have requested GWR to provide more details to enable me to pick up learnings for the future. The reactions from various quarters have been overwhelming and I appreciate the commendations, feedback, and criticisms from a section of the public who felt disappointed with the outcome.”

“There have also been some misrepresentations in the media that are regrettable but nonetheless I take them in my stride. This will serve as a learning curve for my personal development.

“I wish to assure my fans and the public that I remain focused and determined. I will announce my next projects in due course. I also wish to announce that after such an arduous undertaking, I have decided to take a short break for quality family time.Thank you, ” it said.

When a song is well produced, it never gets old and renowned Highlife musician Amandzeba can proudly boast of his Wɔgbɛ  Dzɛkɛ as one of such songs that has survived the test of time.

Come next year, the versatile singer will be celebrating 25 years of Wɔgbɛ Dzɛkɛ and he says it with all joy because he knows the impact the song has made all these years.

“Through Wɔgbɛ Dzɛkɛ, I have had the opportunity to travel around the world and performed at different festivals. After explaining the lyrics of the song to some white folks, I was invited to lecture at Israel in some Jewish schools and also been to other foreign countries because of this same song”

“Anytime Wɔgbɛ Dzɛkɛ is played, it feels like it was just recorded and that is because of good production. From instrumentation, lyrics, arrangement and all the components that make a good song is in there. I don’t regret spending so much on this production because it is still paying off. Anywhere the song is played, everyone loves it and I feel fulfilled that it belongs to me.

“Next year, Wɔgbɛ Dzɛkɛ will be 25 years and I intend to celebrate it big time because it has chalked a lot of successes. I want to thank Kwame Yeboah for recording such a wonderful piece” he told Daily Graphic in an interview.

Talking about the 25th milestone celebration, Amandzeba said a lot of choir groups and individuals have done renditions of the song and he will give such people the opportunity to perform at a concert he is planning with his team.

“It is going to be very interactive and interesting because I have quite a number of personalities who love Wɔgbɛ Dzɛkɛ to bit. I will also give individuals who want to sing the song the opportunity to do so” he revealed.

Positive music

Amandzeba is all about doing positive music and he says whenever he hits the studio, all he thinks about is projecting Africa first and that has made his songs stand tall.

“Whenever I am writing a song, it is about telling the African story and that makes the song rich and authentic.  If I am even writing a love song, I want to use local names like Ama, Akosua and not use an English name. I have songs like Dede, Ama and I am proud of such African names.  Great songs are timeless and I am delighted to know that the youth still love Highlife music” he stated.

Has he been celebrated enough?

The Kpanlogo hitmaker does not believe he needs to be celebrated to know that he has made an impact.
“People don’t necessarily have to celebrate you to know that you are doing well. I have had this conviction that I am celebrated when people tell me they love my music. I know I have done great songs and if people praise me for it, it is enough celebration.

“This is a country where Dr Kwame Nkrumah was overthrown after all he did for Ghana. Anything good that comes from this country will not be celebrated well so I take consolations from the fact that I am not doing music to be celebrated.

“So don’t feel bad as a musician that Ghana does not celebrate you. When you believe in yourself and the product you have, people will love you for it”, he pointed out..

Prefers collaborations to featuring

According to Amandzeba, he prefers to do a collaboration than a feature on an artiste’s work because with the former, each artiste on the song gets to express their feelings on the song.

“A lot of musicians have done featurings but they confuse that with collaborations. Collaborations are meant to be interactive and involving so you don’t have to impose your idea on the other. I have done a lot of collaborations with different artistes and not a feature because with featuring, you don’t get to express your thoughts the way you want it” he explained.

Purpose of establishing One Ghana

Amandzeba has a spot called One Ghana located on the Spintex Road and he says his reason is to give opportunity to young artistes to perform live and also project Highlife music.

“Every Friday, is live band and I have had the likes of Nana Fynn, Pat Thomas, Ben Brako, Shasha Marley, TH4 Kwages, Naa Amanua passing through to perform.

We celebrate our musicians every month and other great musicians come in to support. The last person to be celebrated was Highlife musician Jerry Hansen and the place was packed. This is something I have been planning to do for a long time but today, it is happening.

“Whenever I want to perform, I just jump unto the stage and do my own thing. I want to use this opportunity to invite any musician who wants to perform live to pass through. It is a way of polishing up your act and also mastering live band performance if such musicians are not used to it”,he said

The man Amandzeba

Known for other songs including Toffee, Aso, Medo, Kotosa and Deeba, Amandzeba  was once married to Highlife singer Akosua Adjepong and they had four children before their separation.
Amandzeba who has won several awards from different organisations has a child with his current wife and two other children from other women.

He describes himself as the link between dead and the living and between the ancient and the modern. “I call myself this because I play ancient songs but give it a modern grove”

Although he was younger than 10 years,  Amandzeba knew he would be a great musician  and with perseverance and determination, he is one of the best musicians in Ghana.

Marathons, for some time, have been normalised in some African countries.

Ghana alone has recorded a very high number of applicants to the Guinness World Record within the past few months.

Construction Project Manager and painter, Sharon Dede Padi, also known as Padiki is attempting to break the record of the longest painting marathon.

According to her, painting is just a hobby which she has agreed to do, for a hundred and sixty hours.

Speaking to Doreen Avio on Daybreak Hitz, Sharon recounted her experience while applying to break the longest-standing record of the painting marathon.

“I tried to apply for this marathon about a year ago, and the response I had was I couldn’t use something I had already done.

“Then, I had done 1,480 paintings for the Rock City Hotel. I was told in an interview that if I had done all those in 6 weeks, I could be in the Guinness Book of Records.”

“It wasn’t until this December when we realised that someone had broken the record with a hundred hours, did I also tell my daughter to apply for me. It was just a joke,” she said on Hitz FM.

Padiki revealed that the marathon aims to collaborate with ministers to help unlock hidden talents across the country and the world at large.

“I will be collaborating with the Ministry of Education, Tourism, Sports and Gender. Through workshops and painting sessions, we will visit the villages and you will be surprised by the number of artists there that we haven’t heard of.

“We will liaise with schools and institutions to help give platforms to these talented individuals,” she stated.

She further appealed Ghanaians to collectively help her attain the goal by supporting her with love and care throughout her attempt.

“I need a lot of support from Ghanaians. They should not get tired now! Mine is yet to come so please don’t get tired. My attempt is a means of teaching as well as a profession and I need all the support I can get,” she said.

In the vibrant city of Durban, South Africa, the music world was shaken to its core when the beloved rapper Kiernan Jarred Forbes, known to his fans as AKA, was brutally gunned down in February last year. The tragedy unfolded outside the WISH Restaurant on Florida Road, where AKA and his friend Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane met their untimely deaths.

The tragic incident not only left fans mourning but also set off a complex investigation that eventually led to the arrest of the alleged killers as well as their co-conspirators. Here’s a look at the crucial mistakes that AKA’s killers made that ultimately led to their capture and eventual arrest.

Using Banks For Illicit Financial Transactions:

A significant blunder made by the suspects and their co-conspirators was using the banking system for the transfer of R800,000, allegedly paid for the murder, as well as paying the alleged killers using the banks.

Large financial transactions are often traceable, leaving a digital trail that law enforcement agencies can follow, which is why some criminals prefer to deal in cash or alternative means of payment such as cryptocurrency.

In this particular case, the killers received a portion of the R800,000 that was paid for AKA’s murder. The two brothers received R133,000, which was deposited in the Standard Bank account.  Another red flag was that the said account was opened on the morning of the shooting.

The R800,000 was transferred from a First National Bank account belonging to another suspect who is also part of the conspirators.

Using Their Mobile Phones During The Commission of the Crime:

Cellphone communication between the suspects and other individuals involved in the crime provided crucial evidence.

According to an application for provisional arrest filed by Elaine Harrison, who is the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) based at the KwaZulu-Natal Division of the High Court, cellphone records established that one of the suspects (name redacted) was present in the grey BMW that had tracked Forbes and his friends from King Shaka Airport to the hotel.

Cellphone records also placed the other suspects at the scene of the murder. According to the Times, the DPP said,

“Cellular phone records were obtained for Siphamandla Ngcobo and compared with cellular phone records at the scene of the murders on the night in question. It was established that (name redacted) had communicated with (name redacted) and (name redacted). (Name redacted)’s cellular phone records were obtained and he was also placed in the vicinity of Florida Road where the murders had taken place.”

Using Identifiable Vehicles Which Could Be Tied To Them:

The use of specific vehicles, such as a grey BMW, a white Mercedes-Benz C200, and a grey Polo during the commission of the heinous crime further implicated the suspects. These vehicles were tracked and linked to key locations related to the crime.

“The Forbes entourage was followed by a grey BMW from King Shaka Airport to Hilton Hotel. While the first deceased and his entourage were at the hotel, a grey Polo with registration NUR 597728 was spotted as having passed the hotel. It was later established that this grey Polo was a ‘spotter vehicle’ used by the assailants,” submitted the DPP (Harrison).

According to South African law enforcement authorities, it was also established that one of the suspects had allegedly hired the grey Polo that was used as a ‘spotter vehicle’.

The police were thus able to trace the vehicles to one of the suspects and also further used cellphone records to connect this suspect to his co-conspirators.

The white Mercedes-Benz C200 was used by the killers as the getaway vehicle shortly after shooting AKA and Tibz.

Surveillance Footage:

The suspects were captured on surveillance cameras at multiple locations, including during the commission of the crime. This footage played a crucial role in establishing their presence and movements before and after the murder.

The DPP averred that video footage outside the WISH Restaurant revealed that the grey Polo stopped outside the restaurant while Forbes was inside the restaurant. She alleged that the clothing of the person who alighted from the vehicle and entered the restaurant was the same as seen in the video footage as being the African male who was later identified as (Name redacted). She pointed out that the tracking report on the grey Polo placed the vehicle in the vicinity of Hilton Hotel and later at the WISH Restaurant.

Attempted Evidence Destruction By AKA’s Killers:

In a failed attempt to cover their tracks, one of the suspects tried to set fire to the white Mercedes-Benz believed to be the getaway vehicle. However, they did not succeed in burning the car and valuable forensic evidence was recovered from the vehicle.

The DPP said,

“Upon investigations carried out at the scene where the Mercedes-Benz was abandoned, it was established that there had been attempts to set the vehicle on fire by one of the suspects.”

Witness Testimonies and Forensic Evidence:

The combination of witness accounts and forensic evidence, such as spent cartridges and postmortem reports, corroborated the sequence of events leading to the arrests of the suspected killers of AKA.

The meticulous investigation into the murder of AKA and Tibz unveiled a series of mistakes made by the suspected killers, ultimately leading to their arrest. From financial trails to surveillance footage and cellphone records, each piece of evidence played a pivotal role in solving the case. As the music world continues to mourn the loss of a talented artist, the pursuit of justice serves as a reminder of the consequences of crime. Will this case bring closure to the fans and family of AKA?

Some of the world’s most influential people have arrived in India’s Gujarat state to attend a wedding party thrown by Asia’s richest man.

Mark Zuckerberg, Rihanna and Bill Gates are among the guests at the pre-wedding gala hosted by Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani for his son.

Anant Ambani, 28, is set to marry Radhika Merchant in July.

Bollywood stars including Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan are also at the three-day event in Jamnagar city.

Mukesh Ambani, 66, is currently the world’s 10th richest man with a net worth of $115bn, according to Forbes. Reliance Industries, founded by his father in 1966, is a massive conglomerate that operates in sectors ranging from refining and retail to financial services and telecom.

Anant Ambani is the youngest of his three children, all of whom are on the board of Reliance Industries. The 28-year-old is involved in Reliance’s energy businesses and is on the board of Reliance Foundation.

The extravagant pre-wedding event is in keeping with the Ambani family’s record of hosting lavish wedding parties.

In 2018, pop sensation Beyoncé performed at Mr Ambani’s daughter Isha Ambani’s pre-wedding festivities held in Udaipur city. Former US Secretaries of State Hillary Clinton and John Kerry were among the guests at the event.

A Bloomberg report at the time cited sources who put the cost of Isha’s wedding at $100m – this was denied by a “person close to the family” who said the bill was around $15m.

The current festivities kicked off earlier this week with an event where the Ambani family served food to the local people in Jamnagar.

Some 1,200 guests are attending the pre-wedding party, which is being held in a township in Jamnagar near Reliance’s main oil refinery.

Reuters reported that the guest list includes Indian billionaires Gautam Adani and Kumar Mangalam Birla. Disney CEO Bob Iger is also expected to be at the party, which comes days after his company announced a merger of its India assets with that of Reliance.

Zuckerberg, who is on a busy Asia trip, reached Jamnagar on Thursday. Bill Gates, who arrived in India a couple of days ago, had earlier posted a video of himself having tea made by a local vendor – it later went viral.

Others spotted arriving on Friday include cricketers Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Dwayne Bravo, and BP CEO Murray Auchincloss.

Other guests expected at the Ambani event include BlackRock co-founder Larry Fink, Alphabet chief executive Sundar Pichai, former Canadian PM Stephen Harper, former Australian PM Kevin Rudd and Ivanka Trump.

“The guest list appears to have more RSVPs from global corporate titans than the weddings of Mr Ambani’s two older children in 2018 and 2019, underscoring Reliance’s growing clout and role as a conduit to the Indian economy for global tech, media and energy giants,” Bloomberg wrote.

Among the entertainment on offer are performances by Rihanna and illusionist David Blaine.

Guests are also expected to visit a rescue centre in Jamnagar, which is reportedly home to more than 2,000 animals. According to a planning document seen by Reuters, the dress code for this visit is “jungle fever”.

Joseph Aloba, the father of the late Afrobeats star Mohbad, has once again challenged his daughter-in-law, Wunmi, to reveal everything she knows about the late singer’s death.

Since Mohbad died on 12 September 2023 and was first buried in Ikorodu, Lagos State the following day, his family appears to be embroiled in an ongoing dispute over his reburial, allegations against Wunmi, unclaimed royalties, assets, and his son Liam’s paternity.

It’s been 170 days since Mohbad died, yet the coroner’s inquest is ongoing, delaying the autopsy results and the subsequent reburial.

Mr Aloba has insisted on obtaining the autopsy result before burying his son.

In a series of Instagram posts, Wunmi claimed to have crucial information about Mohbad’s passing, but bullies have hindered her from speaking out.

She expressed frustration at feeling powerless due to interference from industry figures.

Responding to Wunmi’s posts, Mr Aloba penned an open letter to her, accusing her of seeking public sympathy and employing emotional blackmail.

He accused her of playing games with Mohbad’s death and challenged her to disclose the circumstances surrounding it publicly.

He wrote, “It is shameful, a disgrace and an embarrassment for you, a wife, to continually seek public sympathy and use emotional blackmail on me as a father, the entire family of Aloba, and the well-meaning public on the case of my son, whom to date no one knows what or who took his life at his prime.”

“I want to ask you, if you were in my son’s shoes, would your family not ask him questions? Who are the ‘they’ that want to silence you about telling me what happened to the son I suffered to raise when no one was there? Even if we have our differences, is the death of my son worth it? A whole family and you are playing games with.”

“You have had the opportunity at the coroner inquest to say everything you know, and I am saying, who and what stops you from saying what you know to your father-in-law and the well-meaning public?

Mr Aloba also denied claims that he demanded a DNA test for Mohbad’s son, Liam, saying that Wunmi suggested it. He urged her to reveal everything she knows about Mohbad’s death during the coroner’s inquest.

He said, “ Let this be the very last time you would dent my image and accuse me of soliciting for funds. How much have you given me since my late son died? When the governor and other celebrities gave you money, did I insult you, or did you give me a kobo? Just the way those who gave you money with discretion, the same way God has shown me mercy.

Wunmi, I challenge you to tell the world what you know about my son’s death, and I want the world to know that until you tell me who and what killed my son, no one is safe with you.”

Warning her to stop accusing him on social media, he challenged her to share the truth about his son’s demise, stating that until she reveals what happened, no one is safe with her.

Ghanaian musician, WanLov Da Kubolor one part of the FOKN Bois duo, is challenging the dominant narrative that LGBTQ agenda is being perpetuated by some powerful countries.

Disagreeing with the notion that Western nations are imposing the LGBTQ agenda on Ghanaians, he argued that such claims lacked merit.

Speaking in a recent interview on Angel FM, he countered the prevailing belief, suggesting that Ghana’s resistance and hatred for homosexuality arise from misinformation than a genuine understanding of the LGBTQ community.

His reaction comes amidst the recent passing of the Promotion of Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, also known as the Anti-Gay Bill, by the Ghanaian Parliament on February 28, 2024

According to the ‘Human Being’ singer, portraying LGBTQ rights as foreign interference is inaccurate.

He highlighted that even in the United States, where same-sex marriage is legal in some states, it remains a contentious issue in other states.

“No country is pushing the LGBTQ agenda onto Ghana. Even in America, it’s not universally legalized; only certain states have done so, while others are still considering it.

“In Europe, where it’s legal, there haven’t been reports of violence among same-sex partners,” he stated.

Hiplife artiste, Kaakyire Kwame Fosu known in showbiz circles as KK Fosu says he can’t sing lyrics that are not written by him.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz, with Andy Dosty on Thursdays, he explained that whenever the lyrics of a song are written for him, he rewrites it to suit his writing style.

“I can’t sing a song that somebody has written for me, I don’t know how to do that. Even when you write it, I must change it to my progression. I will make sure I arrange your song for you if your song is not good,” he said.

He also denied claims that Paa Kwesi Dobble wrote the lyrics for his song, Oga, during his beef with Samini (formally known as Batman) some years ago.

The hiplife musician also said the song was not even meant as a reply to Samini.

“So when you grant an interview, and you tell me you wrote Oga, can you write my song for me? Double Paa Kwesi can you stand before me?” he said.

The ‘Anadwo Yede’ hitmaker also revealed that he was the originator of fan army culture in the music industry.

“Ask about D camp. When we talk about this nation-nation thing, I started it.”

He is also encouraging Ghanaians to pamper young and rising artists to help them last long in the music industry.

“What some people did to me, I do not want them to do to the likes of Kelvyn Boy, Kwame Eugene. Let’s pamper them to help them last long in the music Industry”

The Hiplife artiste believes a lot could have been done to save ‘The Trinity’, a music group he belonged to from collapsing.

The collective comprised some artistes like Samini, Kokoveli, and K.K Fosu among many others.

K.K Fosu also revealed that ‘The Trinity’ collective was brought together by media mogul Bola Ray.

In the past years, crowding funding in Ghana’s creative arts industry has become prevalent as players are seen or heard raising funds for their illnesses or to solve one issue or another.

It is very sad to note that some of these people who brought smiles to many homes years ago have been reduced to nothing and most at time subjected to public ridicule.

It breaks heart that some of them have become charity cases and depend on public funds for survival until there are no more.

The transition always come as a surprise, considering the extravagant lifestyle some of them paint to the public to create the impression that the industry is glamorous.

Though their lifestyle may be mere pomp and pageantry, there is always definitely an exception.

This discussion brings to mind late Psalm Adjeteyfio of Taxi Driver fame, popularly known as T.T, who is 2022 made headlines after purportedly begging for leftovers.

In September 2021, he revealed he was unable to raise money to pay for his rent and appealed for support.

Scores of donations poured in from philanthropists, including a notable gesture from Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia, who presented him with ¢50,000.

Ayawaso Central Member of Parliament (MP), Henry Quartey also committed a monthly ¢1,500 out of his parliamentary salary to ensure his well-being.

However, the once celebrated actor was tagged a notorious beggar after he continuously run to the public with his problems.

Unfortunately, he passed on April 8, 2022.

Aside from him, other veteran actors including William Addo popularly known as Akpatse, late Kofi Laing aka Kohwe who died on September 16, 2021, Adwoa Pee, Funny Face, Emmanuel Armah, Okomfo Kwadee just to mention a few have publicly appealed for support.

Kohwe stated it is important for the public to care for the plight of old actors who through their gift brought laughter and eased tension in many homes.

He noted what they did cannot be quantified, considering the positive impacts it brought in many homes and the country as a whole.

The late actor revealed some of his colleagues died as paupers because there was no assistance from anywhere.

For him, in their days, the movie industry was not rewarding in monetary terms, and it was against that backdrop, those in the helm of affairs must care about their plight in old age.

He said it was unfortunate that when they are in need, they are left to their fate, adding they must be shown love while alive and not when dead.

As if these pleas for support from the veteran actors are not enough, Ghanaians were taken aback in January 2024 about Moesha’s predicament.

Although Moesha is an actress, she became popular through social media and popular after her interview with CNN’s Christine Amanpour went viral.

Her brother, Ebito Boduong announced she had a suffered stroke and the condition has affected her ability to move and talk.

Ebito therefore requested that the public assists him to foot bills $10,000 (GH₵ 123,600) incurred as a result of Moesha’s sickness.

The announcement was met with mixed reactions as her colleagues and other well-meaning individuals heeded to the call.

Some netizens questioned how the actress who once lived a lavish lifestyle and could not now cater for her medical needs.

This piece is not to ridicule anybody but the big question is, did they forget to invest for the future at the prime of their career and therefore had to beg to survive?

Fortunately, the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has taken a significant step by expanding its basic social security scheme to include self-employed individuals, including our industry players who were previously not mandated by law to participate in the program.

But have they even heard of this new initiative to consider signing unto it?

This new initiative, known as the Self-Employed Enrolment Drive (SEED), aligns with SSNIT’s mission to extend pension coverage to all workers, including those who work for themselves.

Not only does the SSNIT SEED provide retirement benefits, but members are entitled to invalidity pensions, survival lump sums, emigration benefits, disability support, and free access to National Health Insurance Scheme.

All this contribution helps beneficiaries to secure a life and with this, the SSNIT SEED creates the opportunity for our celebrities to insure their future and career.

In the face of any unlikely event, they would not come begging their followers and the general public for support.

It is better for them to take advantage of this initiative and make the best they can out of it.

Nigerian musician, Asake’s latest music video, “Only Me,” has ignited controversy among Christians, sparking accusations of disrespect and sacrilege.

The video depicts scenes that many Christians find offensive, including dramatizations of the holy Eucharist and Asake, a Muslim donning priestly regalia.

Critics argue that, these depictions are inappropriate because there is no connection to Christianity in the video.

Others are also of the view that the video perpetuates negative stereotypes about Christianity and undermines the religion’s message of peace and tolerance.

They point out the irony of Asake, a Muslim artiste, depicting scenes of violence associated with chopping off heads while simultaneously displaying Christian practices.

Nigerians in particular have called for the video to be banned.

The case of Zelia Sulemana, sentenced to death in 2017 for killing her friend in an act of self-defense, has sparked outrage and condemnation from many including Ghanaian actress and activist Efia Odo.

Zeila’s case followed a reportage on JoyNews which uncovered her plight and her struggles in seeking retrial.

According to reports, Ms. Sulemana and her friend were involved in a heated argument when her friend attacked her with a knife.

In an attempt to defend herself, Sulemana managed to gain control of the knife and unfortunately stabbed her to death.

She was arrested, put before court and sentenced to death despite pleas for mercy.

Reacting to the ruling, a livid Efia Odo questioned the logic behind sentencing someone to death for acting in self-defense.

In her view, it is absurd to punish individuals who defend themselves against imminent threats.

Efia Odo said the law about self-defense must be re-looked to avoid such injustice.

She further advocated for a fair and just system that protects individuals’ rights to defend themselves against harm.

Dancehall artiste, Epixode has revealed that he received countless threats after releasing his socio-political song, ‘Wahala Dey.’

According to him, the threats came from different quarters and were in the form of phone calls and physical attacks.

The musician said there were times he would be forced to abruptly end his stage performances because of the message the song conveyed.

Speaking to Amelley Djosu on Joy Prime’s Celeb Biz, the artiste said he had to keep a low profile for his own safety as well as that of his family.

“When we dropped ‘Wahala Dey’, I was getting threats and phone calls. There were events that I’m on stage and they are asking me to stop performing so I had to lay low for awhile. Because I may be the one in front but the family may suffer for what I’m doing. Even though it’s a lonely road to trot…Yes, I’ve lost a few things but also it has given me certain type of respect and power to be different from the rest of the artistes,” he said.

In 2019, the versatile musician released ‘Wahala Dey’, which touches on the state of Ghana’s economy.

The song questions Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s popular statement, ‘Ghana, your beloved country is free forever’.

The musician also uses the song to speak about the sale of government contracts and celebrities living beyond their means due to societal pressure and hardships in the economy.

The 2021 VGMA Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year also condemns churches for becoming business centres, rues the missing Takoradi girls, among others, as well as bribery and corruption that is engulfing the nation.

But these messages did not go down well with some political actors who chose to threaten the motive of the musician.

Epixode further indicated that he has made some enemies and has even lost deals as a result of the song.

But the musician is comforted to stand with ordinary people and speak truth to power.

The musician added that advocacy through music can feel solitary, but it grants him a distinct power that sets him apart.

He also said that he would not kowtow to the power that may go against the voice of the people.

Rapper Ja Rule has said he has been denied entry into the UK, days before his tour was due to start in Cardiff.

The US musician, real name Jeffrey Bruce Atkins Sr, was due to kick off the British leg of his Sunrise tour at the city’s Utilita Arena on Friday.

The 47-year-old said his criminal record was the reason behind the refusal.

He was also due to play gigs in London, Birmingham, Nottingham, Leeds and Liverpool.

Best known for hits such as Always On Time, featuring Ashanti, and Thug Lovin’, he wrote on social media: “I’m so devastated – I can’t believe the UK won’t let me in.

“I’ve spent a half million dollars of my own money to put this tour together only to be denied entry days before my shows.

“This is not fair to me or my fans – these venues are 85% sold out and now I can’t come.”

Ja Rule, who was released from prison in May 2013 after serving two years on gun possession and tax evasion charges, added: “The UK is one of the few European countries that restricts entry to people with criminal records.

“In general you will likely be denied entry if you have been convicted of a crime punishable by 23 months or more under British law, or if you’ve served more than 12 months in prison.”

Tickets for the shows are still available on Ticketmaster.

After one fan tweeted the company to ask about refunds the website’s customer service team replied: “Once we receive confirmed info an email will be sent to all customers for the event.”

Dancehall artiste, Epixode has expressed willingness to create campaign songs for any political party that approaches him.

According to the musician, he will not hesitate to take such an offer regardless of the polarised nature of Ghanaian politics.

However, Epixode said he will reserve the right to compose the song devoid of interference from the political party.

He indicated that, he would only engage in projects that promote and inspire hope in the Ghanaian populace “not necessarily politics”.

Speaking on Joy Prime’s Celeb Biz, the dancehall artiste said; “There are disadvantages, but it is work. It’s only in this part of the world that celebrities are found wanted for making their political affiliations public. But if a political party comes to me for an anthem knowing that the message is positive, I would do it. Not to give the people hope and later be disappointed.”

Dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy is not only promoting Ghana music but also the country’s local cuisine.

He introduced popular Haitian-American musician, Wyclef Jean to Ghana’s local delicacy, ‘waakye’ [rice and beans].

He taught him how to pronounce it in the local dialect and what it can be eaten with.

This was after the two had met at the just ended, Island Music Conference in Jamaica.

Stonebwoy used the opportunity to announce his Bhim Concert in December and his fans can’t keep calm.

The Ghanaian Afro-dancehall musician had honour the invitation by Wyclef to his house in Manhattan, USA.

Wyclef revealed that, he has been an ardent follower of Stonebwoy and adores his passion to linking the African culture to the global stage.

Wyclef Jean described Stonebwoy as a genius who is beyond talented.

“He’s insanely talented… not even talented… so how do I define genius because I am a genius… I don’t define geniuses with eras. It’s about can you move a generation forward after you’ve gone? And that’s why I say he is a genius. I have watched him for a long time because he has moved Africa forward. I don’t know what happens when you put Haiti and Ghana together,” Wyclef said to Stonebwoy during the ‘waakye’ conversation in the USA.
