Residents at Gheskia in the Ablekuma Central Constituency of the Greater Accra region have expressed worry over the bad nature of a bridge which connects to their homes.

The bridge according to them has become a death trap and needs to be fixed.

Speaking exclusively to Adomonline.com photojournalist, they appealed to relevant authorities as a matter of urgency fix the bridge or get rid of it so they don’t risk their lives using it.

A resident disclosed that, the bridge was the entrance to the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) Christ Temple until their relocation to Teshie.

With the premises now a school, residents ply the bridge each day to take their wards in and out of school and to the Agbogboloshie market.

The residents lamented the bridge has been in a dilapidated state for almost three years but they use it daily because it is the shortest and convenient access route.

The much-anticipated #OccupyBoG protest led by Minority Members of Parliament (MPs) took place on the streets of Accra on Tuesday, October 3, 2023.

The demonstration, which has been widely publicised over the past two months, was to demand the immediate removal of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Ernest Addison, and his two deputies over alleged mismanagement.

The demonstration attracted the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) including the National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, and National Organiser, Joseph Yamin, among others.

Several civil society organisations (CSOs), activists, and supporters from other political parties were also in attendance.

As of 6:00 am, some participants had already stormed the ‘Obra Spot’ near the Kwame Nkrumah interchange, which was the converging point for the protest.

The protesters proceeded along Adabraka Road, leading to the city centre. Their route took them through Cedi House to Independence Square, where they made a U-turn at the National Lottery Authority (NLA), all in an effort to press home their demands.

The protesters had wanted to picket at the BoG precincts, but they were stopped by the police, who declared it a security zone and no-go area.

There was heavy security deployment to ensure the protesters stayed within the designated routes.

Ghanaian musician, Mzbel, joined the delegation.

Chale Wote is a platform that brings arts, music, dance, culture, and performance out into the streets.

Over the years, it has attracted many tourists across the globe to the country’s capital, boosting the tourism sector.

Some major activities for the 13th edition of the festival include photo exhibitions, street painting, graffiti murals, interactive installations, street boxing, movie screening, processions, design labs, movie screenings, and more.

This year’s edition promises to be a better experience as it officially partners with Multimedia Group Limited.

Over the weekend, the people of Ga Mashie took their turn in the Homowo festivities for this year.

The streets of Ga Mashie were filled with the beating of the Odadaoo drums by the Gbese Mantse, as the townsfolk and tourists alike trooped the principal streets with excitement.

The special traditional meal, ‘Kpokpoi’ and palm nut soup were cooked and sprinkled all across the municipality as custom demands.

Homowo is a festival celebrated by the Gas to recount the devastating famine faced by their ancestors and to commemorate the return of rain.

The word Homowo (Homo – hunger, wo – hoot) means “to hoot at hunger” in the Ga language. Homowo is one of the colourful festivals celebrated by the Ga traditional area.

The people of Nungua begin the celebration, followed by Lante Dzan We Clan, then Tema, Ga Mashie, La, Osu, Teshie, Kpone, Prampram and Ningo.

The festival begins with the planting of maize, which is used for the preparation of traditional food, “kpookoi” during the festival. It’s characterized by the sprinkling of “Kpokpoi” to the gods and ancestors for spiritual protection. A month before this celebration is done there is a ban on noise-making.

This year’s celebration had a sharp change due to the death of the Queen mother of the Ga State, Naa Dede Omaedru III. Usually, the chief and his kinsmen sprinkle kpookoi on the principal streets within Ga Mashie but this year it was done in houses.

The centuries-old Homowo festival has become a uniting force among the Ga people.

Among the adventurous group from Wanderlust Ghana, a brave Ghanaian team who undertook a remarkable 10,000 km journey from Accra to London, was a Ghanaian father accompanied by his 19-year-old son.

Franklin Peters, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of InkIt Ghana Limited, a prominent signage and digital printing company based in New Town, Accra, took up the challenge alongside his son, Quincy.

Their vehicle of choice for this daring endeavour was a Lexus RX350, which notably stood out as the most unconventional choice among the participating cars.

InkIt’s CEO, Franklin Peters, sporting a red T-shirt, was observed transitioning from his Lexus to the G-Wagon, as the convoy paused at Fotamana during their voyage from Accra to London.

The fleet also included two Land Cruisers, a Ford Raptor, and the formidable Mercedes G63, affectionately known as the G-Wagon.

The five cars that embarked on the Accra to London 10,000-kilometre journey

The decision for Quincy to join his father’s journey was largely motivated by the fact that Franklin Peters intended to drive alone.

Throughout the expedition, Quincy also held the role of a co-driver, taking over the steering when necessary.

The Wanderlust Ghana Team, consisting of Quincy (pictured in the middle wearing a black T-shirt) and his father Franklin Peters (wearing red attire), ready to embark on their journey.

However, their expedition wasn’t without its challenges. While approaching Bamako, Mali, the brake pads of their Lexus began to overheat, causing a loss of effectiveness.

This situation extended to the other team members’ cars, except for the robust G-Wagon.

In a live update, the team shared that the Ghanaian Mission in Bamako kindly provided an escort and assisted in arranging accommodations and meals, offering them a sense of comfort and familiarity.

“Our proximity to the town allowed us to proceed cautiously while our escort coordinated a meeting with a mechanic at the Consulate,” shared team member Kwabena Peprah.

Fortunately, spare brake pads were readily available for everyone, easing their predicament.

As the journey progressed, Frank faced challenges of his own. In his effort to maintain pace and avoid obstacles, he found himself needing to drive aggressively.

Eventually, he opted to join his fellow adventurers in exploring the off-road terrain they had encountered.

Mr Peprah elaborated further on Frank’s experience, highlighting how the absence of skid plates on the Lexus RX350 caused minor damage to the vehicle’s undercarriage.

This incident resulted in a dent at the oil intake point, leading to complications with the oil pump and a subsequent disablement of the all-wheel drive system.

With determination, the team navigated their way to Kayes, where they sought assistance from a mechanic before nightfall. Here, the mechanic was guided through the necessary repairs, which included addressing the oil intake and replacing the brakes.

Additionally, Franklin Peters has garnered praise for undertaking such a memorable journey alongside his son, navigating the inherent risks of the extensive expedition.

The Wanderlust Ghana Team

Social media has been inundated with commendations for the accomplishment, especially after the team’s triumphant arrival in London on August 6, 2023, following the arduous adventure.

The 16-day journey, undertaken to raise funds against digital poverty in rural areas of Ghana, saw nine of the participants ultimately reaching the UK region.

Meanwhile, visa-related issues concerning the G-Wagon’s driver were confirmed by Quincy in a brief interview.

Nonetheless, this remarkable gesture has ignited discussions about the importance of embarking on adventures that foster stronger bonds between fathers and their sons.

In an extraordinary endeavour, 13 Ghanaians have embarked on a remarkable journey from Ghana to London.

Their journey commenced on Saturday, July 22nd, with the primary goal of raising awareness about digital poverty prevalent in rural areas of Ghana.

The group planned to reach London within 16 days, opting for a road trip instead of a seven-hour flight to the same destination from Ghana.

THE ROUTE

Day 1: Bouaké, Côte d’Ivoire, starting from the border at Gonokrom near Dormaa Ahenkro
Day 2: Bamako, Mali.
Day 3: Dakar, Senegal. An additional day has been scheduled for car servicing and maintenance.
Day 5: Nouakchott, Mauritania.
Day 6: Dakhla, Morocco.
Day 7: Guelmim, Morocco.
Day 8: Casablanca, Morocco.
Day 9: Tangier, Morocco.
Day 10: The journey continues from Tangier to Algeciras, Spain, using a ferry. Overnight stay in Valencia.
Day 11: Arriving in Monaco.
Day 12: Reaching Lake Como.
Day 13: Frankfurt.
Day 14: Amsterdam.
Day 16: Arrival in London via the Calais/Dover route.

This venture marks the first time Ghanaians are undertaking such an adventure.

The organisers said beyond the excitement, they also sought to gain first-hand experience of cross-border travel within the continent, aligning with the ideals of free trade.

Who are the Adventurers?

Comprising a team of Ghanaian professionals, the group includes realtors, bankers, software developers, and business leaders.

Their purpose transcends mere travel; Kojo Akoto Boateng, one of the participants, revealed that while these journeys are enjoyable, they are also avenues for building relationships and devising solutions for rural Ghana.

Their trips serve as fundraisers to establish schools, libraries, e-learning resources, and provide mentorship for rural children.

Among the predominantly male group, there is a lone female mechanic, Nana Efua Serwaa Adusei.

Driving Towards Digitization

Outside urban centres in Ghana, numerous communities and schools lack access to essential digital tools. Recognizing this, Kwabena Ayirebi, a leader among the adventurers, underscores the mission of the Wanderlust Ghana group to raise awareness about digital poverty in the country.

Their objective includes collecting funds to establish digital libraries that would link Ghanaian communities to the world of possibilities. The target of USD 100,000 aims to bring technology to the fingertips of young individuals, using these libraries as their gateway to a broader world.

As of August 4th, they have raised USD 6,000, designated as a digital catalyst fund to support digital charities.

Kwabena, a realtor, reflects on the journey’s conception since 2018, with the aspiration of completing it within sixteen days. The group documented every aspect of their voyage on social media, encompassing immigration and border procedures, as well as aspects like food and accommodation.

The Journey’s Genesis

Despite planning for the trip in 2018, the endeavour faced delays due to the challenge of assembling participants.

The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019 further hindered their plans. Three years after the pandemic’s emergence, they finally gave themselves the green light, determined to embark on this journey without external sponsorship.

The road trip for digitization comprised a convoy of five Ghanaian-registered cars, crossing through Mali, Senegal, and Mauritania. Kwabena Ayirebi shared on Facebook that they serviced some vehicles in Dakar, Senegal before progressing to Morocco.

By August 4th, another member of the group, Kojo Saka, confirmed that they had driven 7,200 kilometres to reach Spain.

While some members returned to Ghana, others left for South Africa and the Netherlands due to work commitments. Ultimately, by August 6th, nine individuals successfully reached London, completing the entire journey.

Messages of encouragement flooded in, including those from media personalities and sports journalists.

Ghanaian sports journalist Saddick Adams expressed his wish to document this thrilling 10,000-kilometre journey.

Gary Al-Smith also conveyed his anticipation for an intriguing twist in the adventure’s conclusion.

Ben Dotsei Malo, former BBC editor and current UN News chief editor, lauded the journey as an amazing, daring, and beautiful adventure.

He extended his respect and admiration to the team for their meticulous planning and preparation.

While some raised concerns about the risks involved, Wanderlust Ghana remains undeterred, emphasizing their unwavering commitment to the #DrivingForDigitization agenda.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Monday, July 24, commemorated the 11th anniversary of the death of late President Professor John Evans Atta Mills.

A wreath-laying ceremony was held at Asomdwee Park, near the Osu Castle in Accra.

The ceremony, which was in collaboration with the Atta Mills Memorial Heritage, brought together several stalwarts of the NDC including Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, flagbearer and former President John Mahama.

NDC Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Secretary; Fifi Kwetey, former NDC executives, past and sitting parliamentarians, diplomats as well as families and friends were in attendance to mourn the late President.

Mr Mahama in an emotional speech in honour of his former boss recounted a lot changed on the day of his date.

“The weather turned cold, almost like today and it was as if nature itself was conscious of the passing of a great Political icon.

“We still bear the deep scared of pain all these years and are unlikely ever to forget how we felt on that faithful 24th July 2012. Indeed everybody can remember where exactly they were and what they were doing. When this unpleasant news was broke,” he eulogised.

He described Prof. Mills as a human leader, who strove to ensure better socio-economic conditions for all the citizens of Ghana and evidence of his good works can be found everywhere in our country.

“Yes he was a true leader and he was a friend to many. Professor Mills was the epitome of selflessness, always seeking the welfare of others even at the expense of his own well-being and confirm.

“Prof Mills was deeply compassionate and pathetic person who works tirelessly to lead this country to a better place than he came to meet it. Throughout his life, he sort to impact the life of its citizens including the youth of this country,” he added.

Affectionately called ‘Asomdweehene’, Mr Mahama touted the late Atta Mills lived and depicted the title conferred on him.

“He was a champion of social Justice, his dedication to public office was wavering and his commitment to lifting Ghana to the next level is unmatched.

“He had a single-minded in the pursuit of those ideas and values he stood for and tireless resolute if he genuinely felt this thing was right to do,” he stated.

He continued, “Professor Mills was a peace Maker, unifier and power excellence. Many called him Asomdweehene, because he was fiercely dedicated to peace.”

The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, a significant landmark in Ghana, has been captured in a stunning collection of 50 photos, providing a glimpse into its majestic grandeur and historical importance.

The photos showcase the architectural beauty of the park, including the mausoleum and statue dedicated to Ghana’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah.

The lush green surroundings, well-maintained gardens, and tranquil atmosphere of the park are highlighted in the images.

The collection offers viewers a visual journey through the park, allowing them to appreciate its cultural significance and pay homage to the legacy of Kwame Nkrumah.

While the park was established on July 1, 1992 to honour, promote and preserve the legacies of Kwame Nkrumah, the Akufo-Addo led government has redeveloped the park to be aesthetically fitted with digital audio-visuals which chronicle the life of the first President.

The park which occupies an area of 5.4 acres serves as a personal museum on Dr Nkrumah; an imposing Mausoleum where his mortal remains and that of his beloved wife, Fathia, are interred.

There is a bronze statue of about 10.8 ft. of Dr Nkrumah, erected on a pedestal at the spot he stood to declare Ghana’s independence.

Statues of horn blowers with a fountain surrounded by trees planted by some distinguished personalities on their visits to the Park, projects the personality of Dr Nkrumah.

The desperate search for a missing submersible near the wreck of the Titanic entered a critical juncture on Thursday when air was expected to run out for the five people aboard, but officials vowed to continue scouring the remote North Atlantic.

Five days since the Titan began what should have been a two-hour dive to the century-old shipwreck, a massive multinational hunt over thousands of square miles was still expanding.

A remotely operated vehicle deployed from a Canadian vessel reached the ocean floor to begin searching, the U.S. Coast Guard said on Thursday morning, while another robotic craft from a French research ship was also preparing to dive to the seabed.

The minivan-sized Titan, operated by U.S.-based OceanGate Expeditions, began its descent at 8 a.m. (1200 GMT) on Sunday but lost contact with its support ship.

The submersible set off with 96 hours of air, according to the company, which means the oxygen would be exhausted by Thursday morning, assuming the Titan is still intact. Precisely when depends on factors such as whether the craft still has power and how calm those on board are, experts say.

Rescuers and relatives of the Titan’s five occupants took hope when the U.S. Coast Guard said on Wednesday that Canadian search planes had recorded undersea noises using sonar buoys earlier that day and on Tuesday.

But remote-controlled underwater vehicles searching where the noises were detected had not yielded results, and officials cautioned the sounds might not have originated from the Titan.

Despite the fading hopes, U.S. Coast Guard rear admiral John Mauger told broadcaster NBC the search would continue throughout Thursday.

The French research ship Atalante, equipped with a robotic diving craft capable of reaching where the Titanic lies about 12,500 feet (3,810 metres) below the surface, had arrived in the zone as of Thursday.

It was first using an echo-sounder to accurately map the seabed for the robot’s search to be more targeted, the French marine research institute Ifremer said.

The robot, Victor 6000, has arms that can be remotely controlled to help free a trapped craft or hook it to a ship to haul it up. The U.S. Navy is sending a special salvage system designed to lift large undersea objects.

The Titanic, which sank in 1912 on its maiden voyage after hitting an iceberg, killing more than 1,500 people, lies about 900 miles (1,450 km) east of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and 400 miles (640 km) south of St. John’s, Newfoundland.

The Titan’s deep-sea excursion to the shipwreck capped a tourist adventure for which OceanGate charges $250,000 per person.

The passengers included British billionaire and adventurer Hamish Harding, 58, and Pakistani-born business magnate Shahzada Dawood, 48, with his 19-year-old son Suleman, who are both British citizens.

French oceanographer and leading Titanic expert Paul-Henri Nargeolet, 77, and Stockton Rush, the U.S. founder and chief executive of OceanGate, were also on board. Rush is married to a descendant of two of the Titanic victims.

“We’re waiting anxiously, we hardly sleep,” said Mathieu Johann, Nargeolet’s editor at his publisher Harper Collins.

Sean Leet, who heads a company that jointly owns the support ship, the Polar Prince, has said all protocols were followed before the submersible lost contact.

“There’s still life support available on the submersible, and we’ll continue to hold out hope until the very end,” said Leet, chief executive of Miawpukek Horizon Maritime Services.

Questions about Titan’s safety were raised in 2018 during a symposium of submersible industry experts and in a lawsuit filed by OceanGate’s former head of marine operations, which was settled later that year.

Even if the Titan were located, retrieving it would present huge logistical challenges.

If the submersible had managed to return to the surface, spotting it would be difficult in the open sea and it is bolted shut from the outside, so those inside cannot exit without help.

If Titan is on the ocean floor, a rescue would have to contend with the immense pressures and total darkness at that depth. British Titanic expert Tim Maltin said it would be “almost impossible to effect a sub-to-sub rescue” on the seabed.

It may also be difficult to find the Titan amid the wreck.

“If you’ve seen the Titanic debris field, there’ll be a thousand different objects that size,” said Jamie Pringle, a forensic geoscientist at Keele University in the United Kingdom. “It might be an endless task.”

The State of the road from Teshie to Nungua (Junction Mall ) to Tema is posing a threat to motorists.

Manholes and potholes have suddenly emerged on portions of the road, impeding the smooth movement of vehicles.

Drivers who ply the road described the situation as challenging and causing a lot of damage to their cars which has also increased the cost of maintenance.

According to them, the situation has a toll on them as they have to stay in heavy vehicular traffic daily.

On a visit to the Junction Mall area, Adomoline‘s photojournalist, Joseph Odotei, observed a deep narrow valley filled with water on the stretch.

Many of the motorists using that route to and from Tema had to bump their vehicles into the deep valley filled with water to pass.

Two men were, however, present to assist in the easy flow of the huge traffic formed on the stretch by collecting the muddy water filled in the manholes.

Some motorists expressed worry over the situation and appealed to the relevant authorities to fix the bad road and complete the interchange which is under construction but has been abandoned.

Muslims in Ghana will begin fasting in observance of Ramadan, the ninth and holy month of the Islamic calendar today.

This was after the Chief Imam announced that the fast will start today, Thursday, March 23, 2023.

The announcement was made by the Chief Imam’s spokesperson, Sheikh Armiyawo Shaibu, on Wednesday evening.

“The report we received and source we are getting from Bawku is that the moon has been sighted at Bawku. This information has been well authenticated based on communication between the Bawku Chief Imam and the office of the Chief Imam.

“There is no reason to doubt it. On this ground, and by the Chief Imam’s mandate as the supreme leader of Muslims in this country, Muslims will begin fasting on the 23rd of March 2023,” he declared.

Ramadan is the holiest month in the Islamic calendar. It begins with the sighting of the moon.

Fasting in Ramadan involves abstaining from eating, drinking, smoking, and sexual relations from dawn to sunset.

Ramadan for Muslims is a month of reflection, and self-improvement in relation to one’s behaviour towards other people, oneself, and Allah.

It is also a way to show solidarity with millions of poor people who cannot afford a four-square meal.

Muslims begin the fast before the call to the Fajr prayer after they are done with suhoor and fast till the setting of the sun after the call of Maghrib evening prayer.

Children, the elderly, people who are travelling, pregnant women, and people who are suffering from chronic illness are, however, excused from fasting, but they are required to make up the fasting later or compensate by feeding the hungry in proportion to the fast they had missed.

The festival of Eid al-Fitr, also known as the festival of fast-breaking, is observed to mark the completion of Ramadan after the 29 to 30-day fast.

A burial ceremony has been held for the 21-year-old soldier, Sheriff Imoro, who was gruesomely murdered at Ashaiman last Saturday.

It was a sorrowful moment for the family, friends and colleagues from the Ghana Armed Forces as they paid their last respects.

Sheriff was interred at the Military hospital following a burial service at a mosque close to 37 Military Hospital on Thursday.

The body was retrieved from the 37 Military Hospital by his colleagues.

Adom News’ Prince Owusu reports Chief Imam Osman Nuhu Sharubutu joined the scores of mourners to offer prayers for the departed soul and the bereaved family.

The deceased, who is with the Ghana Armed Forces band in Sunyani in the Bono Region, was reportedly stabbed to death by unknown attackers Saturday dawn.

He was said to be heading towards his residence at Zongo-Laka at Ashaiman when the unfortunate incident occurred.

Though he was carrying a laptop and other electronic gadgets the attackers made away with only his iPhone.

Following the incident, a group of soldiers besieged Ashaiman and brutalised residents in the area.

The heavily armed soldiers numbering about 20 stormed the area Tuesday dawn and started attacking residents, preventing them from even stepping out of their homes.

They further went on rampage on the streets and prevented everyone from stepping out including workers.

GAF has since justified the action, stating it was an operation sanctioned by the High Command though it was not in vengeance for the soldier’s death.

Deputy Defence Minister, Kofi Amankwa-Manu, has revealed that the military operation at Ashaiman on Tuesday dawn, was a sanctioned operation.

His comment was in reaction to an early morning raiding of parts of Ashaiman by military personnel following the murder of one of their colleagues days ago by unknown assailants in the area.

According to reports, an unofficial curfew was placed on residents in the area following the raid, and some residents were brutalised and rounded up by the military to an unknown location.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express, Kofi Amankawa-Manu said the operation was sanctioned by the military high command to investigate the death of the young soldier.

“And so at dawn this morning the soldiers mounted this operation to find or to bring to book the perpetrators of this heinous crime. And so the operations undertaken this morning was a sanctioned operation by the military high command, it’s a well-coordinated operation, that’s basically what’s happening,” he said.

According to him, the operation was necessary to curtail what he suggests is a growing attack on military men in the country.

“Because my brother, there is something happening in this country and I think that we really must be careful. Every now and then a soldier is killed, let us take our minds back, not too long ago, Major Mahama met his untimely death while on duty, this young man, a young soldier in military uniform going to the parents again was murdered. What really is going on?

“Is it a crime to step out to want to serve your country as a military officer?  We don’t get it, and we think that the earlier we nip this in the bud the better it will be for the whole country.

“It’s important we do that. And so yes, the soldiers needed to move in to find out the perpetrators of this heinous crime,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Defence Minister has apologised for the military’s excesses but insisted the operation was a necessary action.

“I think that it is only proper that we admit when there are excesses and in operations of this nature you may get one or two people who may get carried away and so, I mean, if decent, innocent residents of Ashaiman were caught up in this operations, I in my capacity as the Deputy Defence Minister will want to apologise for that. That of course we will apologise, but, my brother, we’re not going to apologise for the operations,” he said.

The Adom Brands of The Multimedia Group Limited (MGL), led by General Manager, Abdulai Awudu, have commiserated with the family of the late Christian Atsu.

Atsu was a casualty of the earthquake that struck in Turkey.

Mr Awudu, on behalf of the delegation, expressed a heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family and the nation for the loss.

He said Atsu paid his dues to the country.

The delegation was part of scores of mourners who joined the family last Saturday for the one-week celebration at the Adjiriganor Astro Turf in Accra.

The deceased football star made his life count by living a purpose-filled life through the sacrifices he made for the national team and his impactful charitable works.

Family, friends, and sympathisers gathered in Accra for the one-week observation of the death of the Ghanaian footballer.

The Ghanaian winger had scored his first goal for Hatayaspor just hours before the natural disaster struck.

During his career, Atsu played 65 matches for Ghana, scoring nine goals.

Two of his most famous goals came in the 2014 World Cup qualifier against Egypt and in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals clash against Guinea, where he scored an absolutely breathtaking goal.

The management of Christian Atsu has provided an update on the ongoing rescue mission in Turkey to locate the player from the tragic earthquake.

The former Newcastle United and Chelsea winger was a victim of the earthquake that hit Turkey last week and is still yet to be found after reports earlier stated he’s been seen and is currently at the hospital for treatment.

In a statement from Atsu’s agent, he disclosed that the rescue process by the Turkish officials as well as Hatayspor FK has been slow and called for more help to facilitate the process of recovering and saving his client and other people trapped in the rubble for the past nine days.

Read the full post as posted on Sports presenter, Saddick Adams’ Facebook wall:

STATEMENT FROM CHRISTIAN ATSU MANAGEMENT

It has been 9 days since the earthquake and we still have not located Christian.

I am at the quake site in Hatay with Christian’s family. The scenes are unimaginable and our hearts are broken for all the people affected.

During my time here we have been able to locate Christian Atsu’s exact room location, and we have found two pairs of his shoes.

Yesterday we received confirmation that thermal imagery was showing signs of up to 5 lives, however, I am told that the only real confirmation of life is through sight, smell and sound, and unfortunately we were not able locate Christian.

This is a difficult situation and we are extremely grateful to all the Turkish and foreign rescue teams, local civilians and volunteers for their efforts and response in rescuing survivors. However, we urgently need more resources, including a translator, on the ground. Things are moving incredibly slow and as a result of that many rescues are being delayed, and lives are being lost due to the lack of resources available to the workers.

It is unfortunate that the club is not on the ground with us, side by side, in the search for Christian. Their position and influence, accompanied with their local knowledge would be extremely helpful. We implore the President of the club and mayor of Hatay, Lütfü Savaş to provide additional resources to speed up the rescue efforts as a priority.

Few natural phenomena, when captured on lens, can leave one breathless and astonished. With easy availability of advanced cameras and constant access to social media platforms, people get a chance to view and enjoy one-of-a-kind occurrences that may take place in any corner of the world.

One such event recently happened in Brazil when a bolt of lightning recently hit the sky.

When the images of the lightning striking a statue were shared on social media platforms and circulated, they left the people mesmerised.

The incident is reported to have happened on February 10. The image of lightning striking the head of the statue was shared by a Twitter user @Rainmaker1973.

The breathtaking image was captured on camera by Fernando Braga. The image has gathered more than 209K likes.

Twitter users flooded the comments section of the post. One user said, “At this point Zeus or Thor. Jokes apart, this is a quite recurrent event, being the highest point, it’s just the luck of having someone doing photography at the right time.” Another user wrote, “Wow! Oh just WOW!”

A third user commented, “What a shot! Thanks for sharing.” While most people appreciated the pictures, few others even cracked jokes.

One stated, “I don’t think he’s rising again after that.” Another user said, “Mom! Thor and Jesus are at it again!”

Nearly two million people visit Christ the Redeemer in Brazil’s Rio De Janeiro every year.

In the past too, the statue was hit by lightning. In 2014, the statue’s thumb was damaged by a bolt of lightning.

Thursdays are for throwbacks, and Archbishop Charles Agyinasare has participated in this interesting trend with a photo that has left his followers stunned.

The photo is of the founder of the Perez Chapel International heeding to his spiritual calling some 37 years ago.

As far back as 1985, he was before an unseen congregation, preaching to them the good news of God and the miracles of Christ.

This was during a mega revival at Asamankese on March 17, he noted in a post he made on Instagram.

Though taken 37 years apart, one thing that remained the same is Archbishop Agyinasare’s diligence in spreading the word of God.

He wore the same facial expression, stood behind similar lecterns and his hand gestures simply told a story of passion.

He shared the photo to admonish his followers to be diligent and not despise little beginnings.

The aged photo was taken two years before Archbishop Agyinasare founded the Word Miracle Church International in 1987, which later came to be known as the Perez Chapel International.

Currently, the Pentecostal-Charismatic ministry is regarded the largest auditorium in Ghana with a 14,000-seater capacity.

Ghanaian winger, Christian Atsu, has been found alive after he was trapped in rubble following a 7.7 magnitude earthquake which occurred in Turkey on Monday.

The 31-year-old, who played for both Chelsea and Newcastle during his time in the Premier League, was caught up in the 7.7 magnitude earthquake which occurred on Monday.

Portuguese outlet A Bola has reported that Atsu has now been rescued from the rubble and has been transported to hospital after suffering injuries to his right foot and breathing difficulties.

Hatayspor, Atsu’s current club, is located in the Turkish city of the Hatay, which is believed to be one of the areas worst affected by the incident. As well as Atsu, it has been reported that the club’s sporting director Taner Savut and an interpreter were also trapped following the earthquake.

Other footballers, including Onur Ergun and Burak Oksuz, were rescued following the incident. Two other teammates of Atsu, Ruben Ribeiro and Ze Luis, are also safe, while Kerim Alici managed to free himself from the rubble.

Atsu, who joined Chelsea as a youngster back in 2013 after leaving Porto, also had spells with a number of other top-flight clubs including Everton and Bournemouth before moving to St James’ Park.

He joined Hatayspor in the summer and scored his first goal for the club on Sunday night – just hours before the disaster which has devastated Turkey.

It has been reported that at least 2,619 people have lost their lives following the incident with over 12,000 more believed to be injured across Turkey and Syria. A massive aftershock with a magnitude of 7.5 hit the south of Turkey just hours after the original quake. Reports say it was felt once again in Syria and also Iraqi Kurdistan.

Other sports stars have also been affected by the earthquake, with Olympic champion wrestler Taha Akgul issuing a desperate plea for “urgent help” on his social media account.

Akgul, who won gold in the 2016 Olympics and a Bronze medal four years later, said on his Instagram story, Akgul wrote: “The building where 30-40 of our wrestlers stay in the wrestling club in Kahramanmaraş has also been demolished… Our athletes are under the rubble. We are waiting for urgent help. Help me, my God!”

Speaking at a press conference, Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the earthquake was the country’s “largest disaster” since another major earthquake back in 1939.

“Everyone is putting their heart and soul into efforts, although the winter season, cold weather and the earthquake happening during the night make things more difficult,” Erdogan told reporters on Monday.

“We do not know how high the casualty numbers will go as efforts to lift the debris continue in several buildings in the earthquake zone. Today is a day for 85 million to be together as one heart.”

A powerful earthquake has struck in south-eastern Turkey, near the Syrian border, killing more than 1,000 people as they slept and trapping many others.

The US Geological Survey said the 7.8 magnitude tremor struck at 04:17 local time (01:17 GMT) at a depth of 17.9km (11 miles) near the city of Gaziantep.

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the death toll there was now 912.

In Syria, more than 470 people died, with victims in both government-controlled and rebel-held areas.

The Syrian health ministry said 326 people had died in the provinces of Aleppo, Latakia, Hama and Tartus.

The White Helmets rescue group, which operates in rebel-controlled areas of north-western Syria, said on Twitter that at least 147 people had died there.

There are fears the number of deaths will rise sharply in the coming hours.

Many buildings have collapsed and rescue teams have been deployed to search for survivors under huge piles of rubble.

The epicentre of the quake was in the Pazarcik district of Kahramanmaras province. Turkish Interior Minister Suleymon Soylu said 10 cities were affected: Gaziantep, Kahramanmaras, Hatay, Osmaniye, Adiyaman, Malatya, Sanliurfa, Adana, Diyarbakir and Kilis.

The tremor was also felt in Lebanon and Cyprus.

“I was writing something and just all of a sudden the entire building started shaking and yes I didn’t really know what to feel,” Mohamad El Chamaa, a student in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, told the BBC.

“I was right next to the window so I was just scared that they might shatter. It went on for four-five minutes and it was pretty horrific. It was mind-blowing,” he said.

Rushdi Abualouf, a BBC producer in the Gaza Strip, said there was about 45 seconds of shaking in the house he was staying in.

Turkish seismologists estimated the strength of the quake to be 7.7 magnitude. They said that a second tremor hit the region just minutes later.

Turkey lies in one of the world’s most active earthquake zones.

In 1999, more than 17,000 people were killed after a powerful tremor rocked the north-west of the country.

A Nigerian couple has challenged the long-held status quo of a white wedding as they show up rocking all-black to their ceremony.

The young couple, identified as Mr and Mrs Moses-Scounty, revealed in a Facebook post that their intention is to change the narrative and prove to the world that black is a fascinating colour.

In some conservative cultural settings, black has been associated with doom, mourning and bad luck, but the couple believes it is just a misrepresentation.

The bride rocked her simple black ball gown, where her groom also ditched suit to wear a black and white embroidered Agbada.

The bridesmaids also rocked their black dresses with red headgears and the groomsmen also wore similar black and white Agbada.

Also, the couple held no reception for the wedding that was held on a Wednesday.

The South Americans finished on level with Korea, however, the goal difference was in favour of the Asians as they narrowly slip through the 16 stage at the ongoing Mundial.

The two goals from Uruguay in the first half were not enough as they bow out from the tournament at the third place in Group H with four points.

In the dying embers of the game, Suarez, who had been substituted earlier, was spotted on the bench, unable to control his tears as his country edges towards a group stage exit.

President Nana Akufo-Addo has officially terminated the appointment of the Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Charles Adu Boahen, with immediate effect.

This follows a call by Vice President Dr Bawumia who was indicted in Anas Aremayaw Anas’ yet to be aired exposé, ‘Galamsey Economy’.

In a statement on Monday from the presidency, the Director of Communications, Eugene Arhin, said, “after being made aware of the allegations levelled against the Minister in the exposé, ‘Galamsey Economy’, the President spoke to Mr Adu Boahen, after which he took the decision to terminate his appointment, and also to refer the matter to the Special Prosecutor for further investigations.”

The President thanked Mr Adu Boahen for his strong services to his government since his appointment in 2017 and wished him well in his future endeavours.

In the documentary, Mr Adu Boahen is said to have told the undercover investigators that Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia needs just $200,000 token as an appearance fee before meeting with supposed businessmen.

“You mean, like appearance fees and stuff? I mean he, himself (the Vice President), if you give him some (USD) 200,000 or something as a token, as thank you, appreciation, that’s fine.

“He’s not really, he’s not really (like) that. All he needs is to worry about his campaign money in 2020,” Mr Adu Boahen is alleged to have said.

Striking new satellite images that reveal the extent of Pakistan’s record flooding show how an overflowing Indus River has turned part of Sindh Province into a 100 kilometre-wide inland lake.

Swaths of the country are now underwater, after what United Nation officials have described as a “monsoon on steroids” brought the heaviest rainfall in living memory and flooding that has killed 1,162 people, injured 3,554 and affected 33 million since mid-June.

The new images, taken on August 28 from NASA’s MODIS satellite sensor, show how a combination of heavy rain and an overflowing Indus River have inundated much of Sindh province in the South.

In the centre of the picture, a large area of dark blue shows the Indus overflowing and flooding an area around 100 kilometres (62 miles) wide, turning what were once agricultural fields into a giant inland lake.

It’s a shocking transformation from the photo taken by the same satellite on the same date last year, which shows the river and its tributaries contained in what appear by comparison to be small, narrow bands, highlighting the extent of the damage in one of the country’s hardest-hit areas.

This year’s monsoon is already the country’s wettest since records began in 1961, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, and the season still has one month to go.

In both Sindh and Balochistan provinces, rainfall has been 500% above average, engulfing entire villages and farmland, razing buildings and wiping out crops.

While mostly dry weather is expected in the region in coming days, experts say the water will take days to recede.

Pakistan’s climate change minister Sherry Rehman said Sunday that parts of the country “resemble a small ocean,” and that “by the time this is over, we could well have one-quarter or one-third of Pakistan under water.”

‘Flood of apocalyptic proportions’

In a interview with CNN Tuesday, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said he had visited Sindh and seen first-hand how the flooding had displaced entire villages and towns.

“There is barely any dry land that we can find. The scale of this tragedy … 33 million people, that’s more than the population of Sri Lanka or Australia,” he said.

“And while we understand that the new reality of climate change means more extreme weather, or monsoons, more extreme heat waves like we saw earlier this year, the scale of the current flood is of apocalyptic proportions. We certainly hope it’s not a new climate reality.”

Satellite images from Maxar Technologies from other areas of the country show how entire villages and hundreds of plots of verdant land have been razed by the rapidly moving floods.

Images from Gudpur, a locality in Punjab, show how the floods have damaged homes, and replaced land with snaking trails of of bare Earth.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Wednesday to inspect its flood damage.

The province has logged most of the latest deaths after water levels rose exponentially, said the country’s National Disaster Management Authority.

Sharif said Tuesday the flooding was the “worst in Pakistan’s history” and international assistance was needed to deal with the scale of the devastation.

A great-grandmother had a singular request for her grave: a 5½-foot-tall, nearly 600-pound penis statue.

Catarina Orduña Pérez’s family erected the monument in “recognition of her love and joy for life,” according to Vice.

“She wanted to break the paradigm of everything Mexican, where things are sometimes hidden because of not having an open mind,” her grandson Álvaro Mota Limón told the outlet.

“She was always very avant-garde, very forward-thinking about things.”

Orduña Pérez, who died at the age of 99 on January 20, 2021, was known in her small town of Misantla as Doña Cata for her fascination with penises.

An old lady in a wheelchair.
Catarina Orduña Pérez called her entire family vergas.

“She always said … that we were vergas,” said Mota Limón.

Vergas is a Mexican slang word that can mean three different things. There’s the usual English word that mean “c–k.” But it can also be an insult that means “Go screw yourself” or “You aren’t worth s–t.” The third way is actually a compliment, calling something cool. It just depends on how it’s phrased.

According to her grandson, the third way is how Doña Cata used the word.

She wanted her family to know that they were all vergas and could do anything they set their mind to, he said.

Mota Limón recalled being a verga meant “one should not give up. When problems arose, you needed to face them head-on.”

Their family knew the matriarch wanted a penis statue on her tombstone for years, but didn’t take her request seriously until she approached death. After she died, Mota Limón said that the family talked about it and “decided to make her dream come true.”

An engineer holding a penis statue
The builder of the statue thought it was a joke at first.

“At first I thought it was a joke,” Isidro Lavoignet, the engineer who built the statue, told Vice. “Because it’s not very common to see these kinds of sculptures or monuments, and even less so in the memory of someone who’s deceased.”

It took a team of people to make the monument. After it was unveiled on July 23, the statue caused a stir.

Mota Limón said that the family did expect and prepare for some backlash.

“Of every 10 people, I think that around 7 see [the statue] positively, and if they don’t see it as a good thing, they at least respect” his grandmother’s wishes, he said.

“There’s others, who in their conservative values are very close-minded, very square, who see it poorly.”

The dawn of a new era in astronomy has begun as the world gets its first look at the full capabilities of NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope, a partnership with ESA (European Space Agency) and CSA (Canadian Space Agency).

The telescope’s first full-colour images and spectroscopic data were released during a televised broadcast at 10:30 a.m. EDT (14:30 UTC) on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, from NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland.

These listed targets below represent the first wave of full-colour scientific images and spectra the observatory has gathered, and the official beginning of Webb’s general science operations.

They were selected by an international committee of representatives from NASA, ESA, CSA, and the Space Telescope Science Institute.

These first images from the world’s largest and most powerful space telescope demonstrate Webb at its full power, ready to begin its mission to unfold the infrared universe.

Check out the captured images below:

Carina Nebula |Credits: NASA, ESA, CSA, and STScI

This landscape of “mountains” and “valleys” speckled with glittering stars is actually the edge of a nearby, young, star-forming region called NGC 3324 in the Carina Nebula. Captured in infrared light by NASA’s new James Webb Space Telescope, this image reveals for the first time previously invisible areas of star birth.

Called the Cosmic Cliffs, Webb’s seemingly three-dimensional picture looks like craggy mountains on a moonlit evening. In reality, it is the edge of the giant, gaseous cavity within NGC 3324, and the tallest “peaks” in this image are about 7 light-years high. The cavernous area has been carved from the nebula by the intense ultraviolet radiation and stellar winds from extremely massive, hot, young stars located in the center of the bubble, above the area shown in this image.

Stephan’s Quintet | Credits: NASA, ESA, CSA, and STScI

Stephan’s Quintet, a visual grouping of five galaxies, is best known for being prominently featured in the holiday classic film, “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Today, NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope reveals Stephan’s Quintet in a new light. This enormous mosaic is Webb’s largest image to date, covering about one-fifth of the Moon’s diameter. It contains over 150 million pixels and is constructed from almost 1,000 separate image files. The information from Webb provides new insights into how galactic interactions may have driven galaxy evolution in the early universe.

With its powerful, infrared vision and extremely high spatial resolution, Webb shows never-before-seen details in this galaxy group. Sparkling clusters of millions of young stars and starburst regions of fresh star birth grace the image. Sweeping tails of gas, dust and stars are being pulled from several of the galaxies due to gravitational interactions. Most dramatically, Webb captures huge shock waves as one of the galaxies, NGC 7318B, smashes through the cluster.

Southern Ring Nebula | Credits: NASA, ESA, CSA, and STScI

Some stars save the best for last.

The dimmer star at the centre of this scene has been sending out rings of gas and dust for thousands of years in all directions, and NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope has revealed for the first time that this star is cloaked in dust.

Two cameras aboard Webb captured the latest image of this planetary nebula, catalogued as NGC 3132, and known informally as the Southern Ring Nebula. It is approximately 2,500 light-years away.

Webb will allow astronomers to dig into many more specifics about planetary nebulae like this one – clouds of gas and dust expelled by dying stars. Understanding which molecules are present, and where they lie throughout the shells of gas and dust, will help researchers refine their knowledge of these objects.

SMACS 0723 | Credits: NASA, ESA, CSA, and STScI

NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope has produced the deepest and sharpest infrared image of the distant universe to date. Known as Webb’s First Deep Field, this image of galaxy cluster SMACS 0723 is overflowing with detail.

Thousands of galaxies – including the faintest objects ever observed in the infrared – have appeared in Webb’s view for the first time. This slice of the vast universe covers a patch of sky approximately the size of a grain of sand held at arm’s length by someone on the ground.

President Joe Biden unveiled this image during a White House event Monday, July 11.

A lady recently cracked ribs on social media after her fake bums fell during a dance at a party.

The lady in question was at a party, clad in a short, nicely-fitting army green dress and white sneakers.

She was waltz dancing with a man on the dance floor where other couples were also rocking it while a group of onlookers stood nearby.

Smartly dressed as she was, only one thing looked extremely weird. The lady’s bum was looking unnaturally structured.

An unusual scene happened in a church at Akwa Ibom, Nigeria during a wedding ceremony.

Proceedings at the wedding ceremony of Mr and Mrs Sampson Etimn were going smoothly until offertory time when an estranged girlfriend of the groom showed up.

It is reported that the ex-lover presented their months-old child as an offertory, in a bid to disrupt the service.

Photos taken at the service captured the baby lying in the offertory bowl, while the bride had money in hers.

The estranged lover is said to have walked out after the jaw-dropping act.
